New Pond Water Green - UPDATE Can't Post

Wink Its been almost a month now and I am glad to report that this morning I can see the BOTTOM Angelic.

FIY I did install a 20 watt UV light as I am not that patient. I have notice that I also need to discharge the bottom drain on the filter almost daily as I do feed the fish a lot (beef em UP). As the man hole was install near pond I can smell the fish sh*t after a while when I stand on top of the man hole (need to do something about that). So I figure if I do not discharge the bottom drain for that 2 or 3 days it would have a great impact on the nitrate level.

Looks like I need to get the testing kit and do a bit of experiment withthe UV light switch off. Does anyone know of a good brand of water tester kit.

Hi Andy

Right move, get the water test kits immediately. Reliable brands include Sera, Azoo or Tetra. I have been using Tetra since I started koi keeping. No complaints. Good to start with pH, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.

As much as you and I would like to beef up our kois by feeding a lot, I suggest you cut down on the feeding initially until you are sure your water readings are good. Overloading the filter is unadvisable.
