Re: [johnson lee] Happy Birthday John Newgen! [In reply to] Can't Post

Johnson Sly, last Sun, WC Chan, Hwong, his lil girl and I made a private pond visit to WC Chan's place in Damansara Heights. Chan's pond was featured in the Nichirin mag few years ago! Needless to say, it was breadthtaking and the Jumbos were just adorable! Too bad I didn't bring my camera there. He has a fantastic house with a very well landscaped garden that has the Twin Towers and KL towers as background! Not only is he a koi-keeper, he keeps birds too, not in small cages but in his aviary! Thanks to him for inviting us to his place. Smile

Back to the original purpose of the visit, that is, to see The Answer in action. The dealer, another Mr BY Chan was kind enough to let us have a first hand look at The Answer installed for his 2 FG tanks. Unfortunately, he was having green water problem at that time. Nevertheless, we had a nice discussion about it and Hwong seemed to be quite serious about it. Mr Chan show us the medium and the smallest model. Must thank Mr Chan for his time and hospitality. Smile

Re: [dttk] Happy Birthday John Newgen! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Doc

Thanks for the update! Oooo..too bad I couldn't make it. From your description, I can imagine the beauty of Mr Chan's pond. Is that the same Mr Chan that visited your pond the first time we met at your place?

I wonder if you have his address or contact no. because I work at Damansara Heights and if Mr Chan is around, I could drop by and view his pond!Smile

So, do you think the Answer is a good investment?

Johnson

PS. I still have some reservations and hope to be convinced by someone who has been using it for some time and proven to be effective.

Re: [dttk] Happy Birthday John Newgen! [In reply to] Can't Post

I have seen three demo's and also been to one of the factories in Norfolk where they make and test the units.

I have 2 x 410 "answers". I have not fitted them to my existing pond as I would prefer to put them straight into my new pond when its ready. I also have about 12,000 ltr of K1, which I wil be using in the bio chambers of my new pond.

I persoannly am impressed. I have a friend who has had the 410 running for two weeks now. The difference is amazing. He has not even changed the bio section of his filter but has almost no DOC at all. Before the water seems cloudy as there were so much debris in the water.

Thanks for sharing Stuart. I hope to see your pond up and running using the Answer and you can then perhaps offer more feedback! I still need a little convincing, if you know what I mean!Wink

Sorry I put too many 0's in the K1. It should have been 1,200 not 12,000.

You have a nuce day too Dr. Tan Wink.

and Johnson I will let you know from my own experience how the answer performs. Hopefully you will be over in UK sometime and I will be able to give you a personal demo Sly.

Ya, the subject is John Goh aka Newgen's birthday and not the Answer.

Anyway, a Very happy 18 birthday JOHN and may you continue to be a koi enthusiat until you are 81 and beyond.

About the Answer, i have actually went to the website but sad to say i don't quite understand its operation. It seems complicated. Maybe after a demo it should be enlightening.

Well, "A HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! JOHN." Got any Kois for a present? As soon as I can arrange someone to net my kois, You can have them for a belated B'day present. Today is my little girl's birthday too! Double Happiness!!

Yeap, Mr Chan's Garden, Pond and Kois are really beautiful. The view from his garden looking out the horizon is breath-taking. It was very nice of him to show us his abode.

The answer? Finally saw the unit and at least I understand how it works. In principle, it should screen off the solids as long as the pump propelling the blades work in clearing the solids away from the screen. Should it fail, the screen clogs up in no time.It will take some heavy consideration as it will cost a bomb to cater for my pond. I dont understand why it should be so expensive for such a simple device. It locks out so many would be users. From info on the net, this kind of system is widely used in aquaculture farms but they are much larger versions. There are also some adverse info on the product on some koi chat sites.

Re: [HWONG] Happy Birthday John Newgen! [In reply to] Can't Post

That is also my only worry. If the internal aquamax pump fails, then the mesh will get clogged up very quickly, which will result in reduced flow which could either damage the mesh (no big deal really), but the problem I see is the pumps in the last chamber will still be working at full speed. Therefore the volume of water flowing to the pump chamber will be far less then the volume of water pumping into the pond. This could cause an overflow of the pond, and/or a burn out of the pumps.

They say that you can fit a crrency detector plug to the device where if the internal pump fails it will also stop your other eltrics on the same trip (i.e. your other pumps). I think I would prefer to get a submersable pump with ball cock attacked, thus if the water drops below a certain level it will stop, then start up again when the level rises again.

Re: [SMW1] Happy Birthday John Newgen! [In reply to] Can't Post

Staurt,

You can have an overflow pipe from the chamber where the answer sits to the next chamber but you will not get fliter water though.I suppose you will have brushes in the 2nd chamberfor that eventuality. Mark Gardner's (koichat forum) answer had a faulty pump so it is food for thought when you fix yours.

Guys, if you have loads of land and dont want to spend a fortune on an electromechanical system, follow Dr Tan's filter system.

UnsureHow would an overflow pipe work on a graviety system ?.

The overflow pipe should only be used during overflow right ?. Therefore it needs to be higher then the surface area of the filter. There would never be any overflow as the chamber with the anser woul dbe fed by a bottom drain. Instead you would just have underflow in the other chambers due to the pump. Unless I have misunderstood you.Shocked

Re: [SMW1] Happy Birthday John Newgen! [In reply to] Can't Post

BlimeyUnsure, you got me there Stuart!

Lets back-up a minute. Your return pump will be pumping water to the pond and level will rise coz the sieve is clogged-up.Level in that 1st chamber will continue to be fed and water will find same level as now swollen pond. So since the water cant go through the answer, it will find an oulet. So if that oulet is the so called overflow pipe, wouldnt the water go into your next chamber? Let me know if my theory is logical. The local dealer for the answer suggested the overflow and I swallowed it wholeCool I am acting like a Koi gobble, gobble, gobble!!

Re: [HWONG] Happy Birthday John Newgen! [In reply to] Can't Post

I see where you are going now.

However I would probably put the over flow pipe in the pond itself and bypass the answer chamber, that way the answer can still work at a lower level (still being fed by bottom drain) and the overflows could feed the pump chamber directly (avoid the filter altogether), therefore no backup brush chambers required and still no damage to bio filter by risk off debris.

Sorry John, myself and Hwong got into a nice little indepth conversation. Maybe if we say Happy Birthday John at the end of each post it will make up for it.Sly

Re: [HWONG] Happy Birthday John Newgen! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hwong Sly, it appears that Stuart is right! It seems like all of us had the wrong picture during our discussion with Chan last Sunday. If the rotor pump in The Answer breaks down. The mesh clogs up easily and water would not flow via gravity into it. In the meantime, the pumps in the last chamber are still working! They will drain off the last few chambers and cause the pumps to heat up. Water from the pond will not enter the filter via gravity when the pumps stop pumping. So there will not be any overflow. Instead you'll have a bigger problem of overheated pumps!...Mad. However if all pumps fail due to a power outage, nothing happens. Wink
