Building a Pond Filter Can't Post

Dear,

I have a 1200 gallon pond. I want to build a filter for it. I got the idea but I do not know how to feed the water in the filter and make it come back out. Do you have to like use a pump near the filter to pump the water in. It wouldnt be strong enuff?

And also what kind of filter should i build. I saw some post with "drum fulters" its going to be above the ground so how do u feed the water through the filter and keep it running

For us to be able to advise you properly we need to know how your pond is built. Does it have a bottom drain? What are the dimensions? Is it concrete construction, Fiberglass, Liner? Above ground or below? A picture would be helpful so we can see the pond and surrounding area so we know what you have to work with.

A few more questions. Where are you located and can you post a few pics? It does help to be able to see the surroundings. Also, there may be members in your area who will be able to direct you in ways that will give you the best performance in your locale.

Hello, I was where you are at one time, it may sound complex, but the idea is SO simple. The biological process of cleansing the water happens simple by the fact that there is running water flowing over ( media). when this happens a colony of bacteria will start to grow and they eat the CRAP! This is a basic idea. Now for the pumps , buy a water pump that has low watts!!!! This is important because the pump must be on 24 hr per day! There are 500 watt pumps and there are 45 watt pumps and the difference is $$$$$ each month!!! The water should not RUSH through the filter , but I prefer that it TRICKLES over the media, so for a trickle you do not need some heavy duty pump! I have a 2000 gal. pond and I have 40 koi. I have two 45 watt pumps that pump water up 3ft to ( 2 ) 55 gal. drums, where it then trickles down through each drum , passing over the media and out into the pond again. These pumps are in the pond , so you hear nothing except the sound of running water! Not motors! Each pump cost about $ 100.00 dollars.
