DIY Mini Bakki Shower Can't Post

Here's the mini bakki shower that i constructed after my brush, jap mat, coral stone filter and pump it up to create a mini bakki shower. Cost of materials RM50 for the crates, 300 bioballs, 8 kgs of bio ring, 2" pipes and 2 steel rods. Priceless crystal clear water condition and enjoyment.
comments are most welcome.
special thanks to drcheng for the information of the blue crates locationSmile.

Hi,

Nicely done.

How are your water parameters? How many koi do you have in the pond and how's the nitrite, nitrate, ammonia count?

Thanks

sup kennethc,

total of 9 60 cm kois, didn't really do test on the water quality, just is superbly clear from previous. i only got the PH test n it stated at 7.6...
i strongly recommend koi lovers to do a simple yet cheap filter system since DIY been practicing lately. go try it on dude.
i got a kohaku on june sized at 15cm, now it turn to nearly 35cm
maybe you shld give a try. the queen gave birth again

Hello, an interseting and important part of pond building lies in HIDING the tricklle tower or bakki shower, we must remember , that our interest is the KOI!!!! so, we must try to hide as best as we can all aspects of the filters!!! And ths can be done by many ways!

Usually Fish Pond Cover Up To Prevent Direct Sunlight,( To Avoid Temperature Sudden Change, White Spot)

Means, Plastic Can Last More Than 10 Yrs or 20 Yrs.

YOU CAN REAL FISH IN PLASTIC BEG. NO MORE CONCERETE POND, SOIL POND, FIBRE TANK.

YOU ARE BIDDING RM 7.00/SQUARE METER, ONE ROLL 68M2

5.YOU EVEN CAN REAL FISH ON SANDY AREA OR AREAS WITH ACID SULFATE SOIL.

6.REDUCE WASTING FOOD.FISH STILL CAN EAT FOOD IN THE BOTTOM OF POND. REDUCE FCR . INCRESE GROWTH RATE.

7. FLOOD NO PROBLEM!!!

8.UV-STABILISED,EMBOSSED TEXTURE AND BIOSUBSISTENCE

9. LOW RISK AND LOW SETUP COST, YOU ABLE TO TRY.FAIL ALSO NEVER MIND. ONLY RM 476.00

Ice,

Yes, it's basically it. You stack the racks on top of each other, the bacteria house or bio-rings/balls inside the each rack. That's why I suggested to you to try this in your current pond set-up with minimal hacking. I believe this is minimal risk and cost to you since you are currently using the blue box.

hi ice..

when use bakki shower on bacteria hse, make sure ur flow rate is very high, if not the bacteria hse wont function..

its diffrent if u use bioball or other materials, they need slow water flow..

read more in Brunei forum abt bakki shower...

Hi Kit,

What is the minimum flow-rate to be effective?

Re: [koi@kit] DIY Mini Bakki Shower [In reply to] Can't Post

What if we are using the Bakki shower as a supplement to our existing filter... ie. existing filter already in use and water is good... but adding bakki shower to complement filter. What is then the minimum flowrate ?

If we use Bakki in a 300Ton pond, following your advice, we would need a 600T/hr flowrate through the shower... that quite a big flowrate..

I have seen Bacteria HOuse being used as normal filter submerged in water... with much slower flow rate... probably not as effective but it is still a workable medium, right?

Someone in the forum once said that flow rate through the Bakki doesn't affect the dwell time of the water through the medium... the dwell time is the same as the water is pushed through by gravity... hence theoretically, the longer the dwell time ie. more levels of bakki or more bakki setup with slower flow rate should be better than one bakki setup with higher flow rate..... wouldn't that be correct ???

Hence, the comparison is this : for a 20T pond - is it better to have two setup of Bakki with 20T/hr flow rate each or one Bakki setup with 40T/hr flow rate ???

yes, u r rite, thiam Hwa use this as supplementary filter, his water improve alot. cant believe it til u see the real condition.
yes, flow rate still the same, i wud suggest double..

from 1 tray water drop to another tray will encourage more oxygen intake at the space btw them.

Hence, the comparison is this : for a 20T pond - is it better to have two setup of Bakki with 20T/hr flow rate each or one Bakki setup with 40T/hr flow rate ??? i wud go for 2 set up of 40 ton/hr

i m just suggesting to u base of my experience with BH /BS, also after consulting Daisuke of momotaro koi farm..

Hi Kit,

If a DIY Mini Bakki Shower with Bacteria House is used to supplement the normal up-down filter-system. Would it still work with reduced flow-rate?

Is there a maximum flow rate for one setup of Bakki...? Also, is there a max pond size for one setup of Bakki ??? ie. without any type of filter... what is the max pond size which can be supported by one setup of Bakki... Thanks.

Re: [Epal63] DIY Mini Bakki Shower [In reply to] Can't Post

hi there..

as mentioned to water b4, it wont work fully.. hehehe..Smile

reduced water flow wont have the 'explosive' effect, only hv trickle effect, in long run will encourage sediment inside or outside the BH.. also, the BH wont function at it 100% effect.. just like a sport car which need 100 octane and if u only provide 80 octane, u get the power of 80% only.. wow i hope i m giving u the correct example...Crazy

check my post at Brunei forum, i share my bakki shower / bacteria hse experience there...
