DIY Pond cleaner?

Anyone have any ideas on a home made pond cleaner? I have a water fall and lots of rocks that have about 1-2" of nasty mud in the bottom. It is really bad that its cloggin up my filter every other day!...I had thought of using my husbands wet vac with some kind of net over the end so it wouldnt hurt my koi....I am so new to this...any idea's?
