Hi Jon,
You put this skimmer in the first filter chamber or in the main pond ? Personally I think the water collected is too much, I will suggest you make the output for foam smaller and higher or taller, then the water collected will not be that much but more on the collection of the protein.

Cheers,
Edo

Hi Jon,

Great stuff! Looks like it is working well for you. Good to see. You could let the collected dirty water drain away automatically so that it does not stink up the place. Tongue

cheers..

Hi Edo,

The stuff thats coming out are just foam, but I'll consider your suggestionWink I can't place it yet in my 1st chamber which was originally planned. I was kind of in a rush to test it. I'll relocate it this ThursdaySmile

Dear Koi38,

I am tempted to copy your work. But I thought protein skimmer only works in sea water aquariums??? Not fresh water aquariums or ponds?

Regards

Hi stp,

We do use PS in fresh water tooSmile

This unit will get rid off DOC from your water which creates foaming or excessive bubbles. I have this unit running for a while now and from experience we enjoy my pond more and so as our friendsCool

Some uses Febi Turbo Cleaner but..............can't afford one so I experimented on this and it worksAngelic

Me again,
Do you some kind of bracket to keep this in place? Does this go in the last chamber of your filter? This uses two airstones, that's it? What is DOC ?
How do people learn all this? I'm sure my head is going to burst!

Hello me againTongue

You can attach this on a bracket if you want to. Mine is just squashed between the wall of my biofilter and jap mattsSmile

DOC - dissolved organic compounds. It's the accumulation of broken down organic matter in an aquarium or pond

How do people learn all this? I'm sure my head is going to burst! ShockedShockedShocked........LaughLaughLaugh
I've learned and still learning all these by talking to local Koi club and forums like this oneCool

     What is a PET bottle?
It is hard to tell from the photo, is the bottom of the 4" pipe curved or straight? Is that a hole in the bottom section of pipe?

Hi Jaylene,

PET is a soft drink plastic bottle(coke bottle). The advantage of using this is you can actually see if its working or not or if it needs adjustingSmile The 4" pipe is just left over from pond build, I just didn't bother cutting it. The bottom end of the pipe just has to be straight cut(not like mineCrazy)

Jon

If the bottom of the pipe is cut straight across, how does the water get into it?? Doesn't it sit on the bottom of the filter chamber?

Hi Jaylene,

The bubbles will lift/push the water upwards. The excess bubbles get pushed out and the water goes out to water return pipeSmile
