Hi everybody. I wanted to share my diy qt-tank setup as I showed koi38 at www.koi2day.com/forum . Since I live in Norway and want to take my koi fishes indoor during the winter I made a tank for them. I will also use as a breeding tank and a qt-tank. my tank is somewhere between 800-1000 literes and is made of polyester and got a bottom drain. the filter setup is below water level and is under heavy pressure. the filter is a blue drum barrel and the pipes is glued together so it won't leak caused by the pressure.. water goes from bottom drain to a 12000 pr/hour pump and to the filter.
the qt tank all done in nice blue color :)
the pipes all cutted in the right length and mounted together to see if everything is in order before its glued
the pipes inside the blue drum barrel. water comes in the bottom pipe and outlet at the top.
the t-piece mounted at the bottom to get good suction from the bottom of the barrel when I backwash the filter.
the outlet of the filter with the grid on. the barrel contains lava rocks at bottom, kaldnes k1 bio media and matala at the top . matala is now exchanged with japan.
heres a picture with the lid on.
the water sprays back in to the tank to give lots of oxygen for the koi's.
outlet to tank and the bottomdrain.
nice and happy koi's ..clear water...the tank is 120 deep.
a protein skimmer put in the tank. design by koi38..thanks for a great diy skimmer :)
another picture.. by turning the valves i can run the filter in normal cycle, backwash cycle, rinse cycle, bypass the filter. Also draining the tank and filter completly. when backwashing, rinsing and draining. the waste goes out thru the waste pipe..thru the floor and to the outside. My protein skimmer also goes out of the room thru waste pipes. I will probably fill up the filter with only k1 bio balls and japan at the top. removing the lava stones.
pointing where I will mount a valve to bypassing the filter. feel free to give a lots of comments on the setup..
