not sure where the post was but it was realy simple a pice of black soaker hose and a plastic barbed T-fitting that was it take the 2 ends of the soaker hose and attach to the barbs on the T-portion then run your air tubing to the leg left...

Hello Tao,

Thanks for the pic just the one I was looking forSmile. I want to do the same thing. I'm planning to use copper tube and drill tiny holes. Have it sitting just a foot off from the bottom drain. How did you installed yours?

PS: Is copper okay to use for pond???

thanks,
Jon

Re: [Koi38] DIY bottom ring aerator [In reply to] Can't Post

Actuall, the one I use is perforate hose. Here we call "Oxygen Ring", (actually air ring). It is designed to use in Koi pond. The retailer in Thailand imported it and cut in pieces. The stainless steel bar is used as a core. It's weight help the hose not floating on the surface.

I stole my wife's stainless steel bowl from her kitchen (you can steal from kitchen or buy one at super market. I turned it up side down and place the ring over it. The plastic belts were used to fixed it with the bowl through the small drilled holes.

If you don't have the oxygen ring. You can use hose (same one used in the garden). Use a nail to make holes. Fix it with a bowl. Next is weighting the air dome or fix it with bottom drain.

I don' think copper is not a good idea as well as aluminum.

Additional Technique
When using this areator ring for a year, algea will block air bubble. Cleaning can be done by putting it in dry place under sun light for 2 days. Then brushing it. Done!

Use the picture icon (mountain). You should have your pic post somewhere before. Then add http address in the dialog.

Well guys here are some pics of the making of "The Ring" LaughLaughLaugh

Materials are all polyurethane. 19mm poly tube, T's and clamps. The gray pipe is a pvc conduit. Thing king of using it a the leg (stand)Smile

And here is "The Ring". Only took 20mins and $10AUSD. Oh yes, you will need to heat up the poly tube but not too much or you will kink it.Tongue This will sit right on top of my BD. I'm still missing one part. Once installed on my BD I will post more pics. I've used needles to put tiny holes on it. Four lines of holes from top to side and one line at the bottom. Still in the test mode, but it's working so farWink. will keep you posted.

Jon

A poly tube (Polyurethane) is the one we use in Sydney in our watering garden system. It's weather proof (sun/rain) and it's flexible.Smile But once use with water it's really tuff.

No. It doesn't have holes in it. I've used dressing pins to punch tiny holes.Wink

Punched a few holes on my fingers tooUnsure

More pics of "The Ring" attach temporarily on the BD lid Smile
Metal fittings are stainless steel.

I'm not sure if it's too high or too low, it's about 4 inches high from BD lid. Comments pls Smile

Last pic bolted together for photo takingTongue No clamps yet, not sure about the gap between ring and BD.
Advise plsSmile

My "bottom ring" is nothing fancy, just plain simple and not expensiveSmile. Well, the only expensive part were the stainless steel($30AUSD). But including every single parts total is $40AUSDWink
It will be run by a 60ltr an hour air pumpSmile

Re: [Koi38] DIY bottom ring aerator [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Jon,

I believe it may sitting too high. The way it is sitting now, it will not be drawing most of the surrounding water into the bottom drain but instead send the dirtier water direct up the column of water and air. My understanding is that it should sit directly above the perimeter of the lid of the bottom drain.

Hope someone can correct me if I am wrong on this matter.

Cheers..

Thanx GCSpyder, I thought so. Just like what I said it's temp until I get some advise from you guysWink

But then again, if I have a water circulation in which will draw all the waste to the center will that still be ineffective?Crazy

If I have to lower it will 2 inches be good enough. I think that's the lowest I could go coz of the fittings lenghtUnsure
