Da Birds!!!!... Can't Post

Well... the giant Egrets have found my pond!!!!... First one, then the next day, because he had a problem cornering them, he brought a friend... I have done/tried the following(can't kill them in the US);
.... Fake Bird ..They walk right by it!
.... Fish netting.. stab through it!
.... Fire Crackers.. Ok for a few hours!!!
--- Currently planing a electrical, low voltage pet line to keep them out!

Anyone have any other ideas???
Thanks,
Jimar1MadFrownUnsure

have you tried scarecrow? you can also put a wind chime in it's path to add noise when it triggers.

Thanks for your response... I was aware of the the Scarecrow...but wasnt sure of the name... Did look up on the net per your address... looks good... good demo as well!... However, am curious as to the 'long time' effectiveness of the item.... I am aware of the various 'bird (owls, herons, aligator heads, cats, etc) that work for a couple of months then really not effective ... have acutally seen birds setting next to an owl 3D plaster casting...
Do you know if they are effective for a long time???..That is, will the animals continue to scatter from the water spary of just enjoy it...Of course, my problem is with herons and eggrits.....experience with the Scarecrow?

Did install a 'Pet Guard'... a low voltage electrical wire run around the paremeter of the pond and entry... additionally, added bird netting over part of the pond... both a pain i in the butt... have to remove the wire every morning to exit my home!!!!... the netting is in bad taste as to the pond appearence!!! However, the birds have not returned or at least entered the area since it was installed... I know this because there is no water splashed on the sidewalk ...so they couldnt have entered the area..... really dont know if they tried!!!!!

Using more than one method of stopping them is increasing the effectiveness of your plan to protect the fish. Nothing is 100%, but a combined effort will sure help. The scarecrow will work on most birds, and the netting will work on others, and the wire will help keep raccoons out.

Thanks mike,
Trying to purchase a Scarecrow ..now... Have already purchase 2 additional sprinklers of the same type.. intend to run as controlled by the Scarecrow... which will give me a wide range of coverage... per connection of hose in between scarecrow and slaves....My concern is the Scarecrow as to if it will be effective against the birds... I have coons in the areas but dont appear to be a problem as of now...

Scarecrow is Ok...Coons don't much care!!!... Birds, buggie out!! However, the 2 hose connections are for connecting a second Scarecrow.. that is, cannot just connect another sprinkler to the 2nd connection and expect it to work..doesnt....
but if your area can be covered by a single Scrow.. is Ok for the birds...

Not much on 'nets'... seems to me it takes away from the pond!... Have seen them above the pond aobut 1..2 feet... not bad but still ..not for me... use bird netting....with 1..2 foot pvc poles in the ground around the pond....

Thanks for the follow up, now I know what to get if I have the predator bird problem. So far so good on that front. My net is unsitely no doubt, but when faced with leafs dropping in the fall, the net will do great and it could serve as a backup to deter preditor birds. I had a 3/4"pvc pipe supporting a net above the coping about 2' alot like the one you mentioned and it was difficult to move around and to flexable. Probably could have used 2" pvc and made smaller sections for manuverability, but concept of covering whole area with new tent like net apealed to me. Either one seems an eyesore in the backyard ,but cleaning leaves endlessly is just not an option. I like to enjoy the pond as effortlessly as possible to maximize entertainment value. allways learning and tweeking though.Cool
thanks
