Ok back to ur question..

1. Can I know where U add water to U pond, when Change water or cleaning u filter? Coz our tape water kill all kind of bacteria... incl the gd 1... Pls never x 1000 used tape water wash u bio filter... even it's dirty...(however U r doing abt the same as wat I do... bt my filter is only 10% of my pond... still wonder why U pond is green?)....

As i said at the early post, i seldom clean my filter. I do WC once a week with tap water directly to the pond.
Ya.. i oredi know tat, cos my frd add tap water to his bio filter then the pond water turn brown after.......

I think i m not going to take photos, cos the water is still green... how can we see the bottom?? but i will take when the water turn clear (hehehe dont know when???).

For my j.mat of chamber 2 i place vertical as wat u said.

Erm...... u really want me to draw again ah???

U can add water direct to U filter... bt U hav run U pump at the same time... as combine the new water wth pond water... ideally to U chamber 5 (mech. filter... )...

I think maybe U mech chamber cant treat all the dirty & waste frm koi... so U bio media wil 'fill up' wth the wasted... so less room for gd bacteria... maybe U can try rought cotton (buy a gd 1 tat can washable... it's green or blue one... at here I got it RM 90 for one roll...) It work great for small filter like mine... jst U hav to work hard to wash it Unsure

...

Today I jst add some media - so called bio cotton (black one)... hmmm....

I think I will U my filter section later n some photo of filter... so U can understand u operation of my filter too Sly

No problem riolow, i m happy tat we can discuss all about our koi, pond and filter here.

Here is my filter system b4 and now.
Actually c5 is for drain water of c1-c3, so now u can c tat i convert the c5 to a bio filter.

Erm.... put cotton for the filter? tat need to wash so often.... Frown

hmmm.... u filter size is ok for your pond as usually we r said filter shall 30% of pond... (Filter deep is the same as pond, right?)

So, only two reason U get green water tat wat I can figure... 1st no gd arrange of filter (can be media position & flow; or method of cleaning filter)... 2nd is really like wat U said --- overfeed Crazy

...

If possible, :-
1. let the water flow to C5 frm pond and so C5 convert to mech filter wth brushes & cotton... wth UPVC frame to hang them...
2. let the water flow from C5 to C1 and follow to C4... and C1 - C3 is JP mat and C4 is coral & ceramic rings...
3. them pump water from C4 to TT... and TT to pond...

Coz, U can flush & wash U C5 every 2 wk (even wth tape water) as it's mech filter....flush Biofilter every 3 mth or 6 even it's mutual... at tat time U can save U time to watch U koi... n play wth them Cool

If not and U thing U r hardworking enough... I suggest U can jst add cotton against the water flow jst be4 bio filter...
buy a gd 1 tat can washable... so can save $$$ mar Tongue

(for long run).... U can hang it to wall... as it is very gd to treat all dust & waste...

I jst wash my filter last wkend (every 2wk)... maybe next time I wil take some photo to U

However, If U dont wana to anything... then better used UV light at the moment... as at lease U can see U koi... knowing their healthy... Coz, every1 is used it when the filter is yet to mutual...

Thank u so much for all ur advise here.
For the green water problem i think shld b over feed.
My frd hav the same batch of koi, but my fish is grow faster and bigger than his.
After he saw my fish bigger than his and he feed the fish more, finally he got algae bloom too...hehehehe....

My pond water was turn clear this morning, but not crystal clear.
Water parameter is ok too, so i will turn off the uv light after few day and keep monitor.
Hope the algae not coming back.

Actually i already hav plan few months ago just like wat ur advise.
I wont do any change now and save more money first.....
May b i will start the construction few month then..
Pls see the plan and advise....

hmm... I still thinking tat if possible, dont nd change/reconstruct u pond... as U filter size is sufficient for U pond... (filter depth same as U pond depth, right?)

Jst possible get 30 - 40% of U filter work as mech.. and followng the bio... bt the problem is the water flow to C1 1st Crazy

... possible make it to C5 1st and then to C1... so U can save one pump... n easy maintain...

If U ready wana change... why dont try to get a better TT... as it work better ler... (I think U have read the hot topic : High Nitrates Level? Try This!)

Or, how often U wash u brushes? If every 2 wks, then U can used cotton... jst like me... I'm finding some filter secton tat I saw here n ... will attached later... so to easy understand the best possiton of the cotton...

p/s: I think we r abt out of the topic ler Tongue

I think i can link up the bottom drain pipe of pond with C1 to C5 bottom drain pipe, but how i make the water back to C1??? And the surface skimmer of C1???? I need more time to think...!!!!!

I already hav a t.t with 1650pcs bio ball in 4 basket running more than 1 year.
On the time i install the t.t the water was clear and i didnt check the water parameter, so i dont know whether the t.t toke effect to my pond or not.
But for the p.s i install, i can see tat less bubbles on the pond surface and the water looks soft (i dont know how to describe)...
Now the pond water is totally clear, but the koi r scare.... not swim up to eat. If i walk away from the pond then they eat like crazy... damn.....!!! Unsure

I think tis shld cause by the water suddenly turn clear.

If i hav free on this coming sunday, i will take some photos of my filter and post on monday.

Until now i dont know whether the ps work or not,
but at least my pond water getting better now.
I toke photos of my filter tis morning and i'll post tmlw.

Wat is ur pond size? How many fish do u hav?
Can show some photos?

Water from ps(slightly yellowish) and pond(clear) 05-05-08

The water is clear and less bubbles on the surface.

I happy to see my koi with clear water now....

... But my 1 also not so bad Wink

My pond is abt 18 ton... but, It have 2 pond wth water fall linking the two... the deeper 1 is abt 10 tone... shadow is abt 6 tone... I have 11 kois... 7 is two to three years koi size abt 50++ cm (2 kohaku, 3 sanke, 1 Kujaku & 1 showa tat lost sumi Crazy

)... recently added 4 young kois (2 ogon, 1 koromo & 1 shiro) ...

Sorry ler... I'm busy recently... cant take photo... anyway, will attach tis sunday... U can view on coming monday... together wth my filter system, ok? since U hav some attachment here Smile

P/S: if u wana to know whether U PS is workable... then take it out for sometimes and other maintain the same... U can see the result... Hope U PS is ok. Good Luck

I dont believe ur pond water is clear than mine...kekekek unless u show me ur pond 1st heheheheh.... Tongue

18ton pond... how deep is the pond? since ur koi r 50cm+ then ur pond must b 4ft deep or more.
I m regret not to make my pond deeper, suppose to make 4ft deep of more..... Frown

Ya, u r rite.. i will turn of the ps a week or 2 and run again, then i will know whether its work or not.

Hey... Sorry for lately reply... as I was busy.. n only now can hav time to reply U mail...

Abt U upgrading system of u filter, Can U try coring to pond n hav side drain (not bottom drain) n side drain to U C5... it's possible? U can try to ask Contractor overtere...

I hav taken sum photo... bt the file too big... cant attached... so how u do?

Maybe I will post it to my friendster... sorry... still wan u wait... Mad

Hi riolow,

Yesterday my pond water turn cloudy again after doing 15% WC (100% tap water).
For my green water experience Frown

cloudy water like this will turn yellowish then turn green with in 1-2weeks. Frown

Hi Chris,

So bad to hear tat U water turning green again... Mad

... U said U add 15% new water, right? where U add to? do mech or bio filter C??? Hav U add anti-chloride??? Coz chloride wil kill all bact... incl the good 1... Unsure

By the way how U water flow frm C1 to C2 & 4... As I saw U pic tat the water is all flow frm the bottom... do U have double wall system at U filter?

I finally find a way to reduce the pic size.... he... Wink

Pond Koi is photo taken before I clear my filter... n Pond Koi1 is day after... In fact, both is fine... but I still feel better to clear once every two wks, if I hav time... but no more than 4 wk... So, to maintain gd water for my kois Smile

I hav 4 C... is pumd fed filter... ( U r gravity-fed) attached my filter on top view...

1st is C1 ... I hav two pipe... 1 for for discharge water out from my filter; another is let the C3 & 4 discharge water to C1 & 2

C1 is empty at moment... migth add some medie later...

C2 is all mech filter...
with 6 row of brushes (each row hang 5 brushes, except 1st row is only 4 brushes) all together is 29 brushes...
In additional to tat, I hav add two rough cotton - 1 at the end of the C2, as U can see it hang on the wall; another is jst at 2nd row (coz it's too long n block water flow; coz overflow - will modify shorter n put at the 1st next time...)
the two cotton... all with extra 'length' to treat dush n waste... It work very gd for me, after I used it Cool

... Bt I hav wash it hard Pirate

C3 is all full wth jp mat...

C4 is jst ceramic ring...

Both C3 & 4 wth 3 air stoners

Recently, I hav added 6 nos of bio mat...on top of C 2 & 3...

At 1st, I jst thinking to treat the waste... bt it work v gd for me... n easy to wash too... jst twise wth pond water....

Beside tat I hav hide abt 300 pcs of plastic bio-ring at the water flow Smile

... bt I dont know it work or not... I jst treat tat is extra only Blush

Also attached my fav kohaku abt 55 cm ( 2 to 3 yrs now)... I bough it at 15 cm... n grow 40 cm in one n half yrs... Cool

attached it's the single wall system... water will flow frm the top frm C1 to C5... n finally the clear water flow to bottom of the C6... Do the pic help U?

..... Green water is coming to my pond again...!!!!!
I install the uv light again, so i think the green water wont bloom.
But i hav to find out why????? would tat b the tap water??
Last time the algae bloom like this also.

Usually i do 15% WC (50% tap water & 50% tank water) directly fill in to the pond with no anti-chlorine.
but this time i tried again WC with 100% of tap water.
After i fill up the pond then i saw tiny bubbles on the surface and the pond water turn cloudy.
I think my pond water turn cloudy mostly cause by the tap water, wat do u think???

ok back to my filter chamber. Yes i hav double wall system for my filter, u cant see tat bcos i put j.mat in between the double wall of C1 and C 2.

Nice pond and kohaku u hav there.
Wow 1.5 year can grow tat big? how deep is ur pond? My is 3ft deep, will my koi grow 60cm or more?
I like kohaku, shiro and showa, but i cant get any good quality koi around my area.

I hav never add water without anti-chlorine... but, I was told tat chlorine will kil gd bact not gd to fish too... so, after I wash my filter n filling new water, I add anti chlorine... but, droping not need lar...

Double wall is the best tat I wana to hav Frown

.... Today, I jst hav a ideal to your filter wth min 'renovation work'... is reduce u filter wall height at C1 to 3 as mech filter... n let the water finally flow to C5 as bio filter... then only pump the water to the pond... is it ok? Angelic

Wat kind of anti chlorine u use? is tat the one like crystal or liquid type from lfs?
I think i shld buy some for my pond.

Thanks for ur suggestion for the filter system. But if like wat u said its almost same as now...
I still hav to drain all the water of C5 b4 i drain water of C1.
Anyway if i decided to renovate the filter, sure i will link up all the drain pipe to a new chamber.
Tat will b more easy to clear and less maintenance for future.
