The tiny foam is from the air bubble, water flow from the FOK pump and also from my bekki shower (DIY).

After reading a book related to foam fractionator, the new idea was coming out. The question is how to separate the foam before it flows to the pond?

Pls. see my original 1st tray of bekki In the tray, I put filtermat in it.

I took all JFM in the 1st tray out. You can see that the water level is at the outflow pipe. So that the bubble (or foam) can be escape from the tray.

I stole 2 furture board sheets from my daugter! Not so sure, it is called "future board" in other countries. Pls. see the photo. It is similar to card board. Instead of made of paper, it is made of plastic.

I cut the corner to avoid the leg of the upper tray.

The rectangular cuts are for the water flow to the other side.

2 future board were placed in by the upper edge is on the front tray edge. (my english may confuse you. Sorry)

See picture is better:

Then, bubbles can not escape from the bekki.

The rectangular cut should be under the water level. See the pic.

Before cut the rectangular shape, you better try the sheet without cut first and then mark it. Then cut!

The water can flow to the cut but bubble or foam can not!

It's DONE! Such a low tech ha?

After running around 3-4 hours (depend on your pond dirty), I got some foam! Looks like beer foam! It was stuck at the corner of the tray!

Now issue arose again, how to take the foam out?

At first stage, I drill a hole putting outlet pipe with valve at the water level. I turned on the valve. But the foam was still there! Doesn't work!

At the end, low tech again, using small net (gold fish net) to take foam out!

And it works!

Any idea to improve is more than welcome!

Re: [Tao BKK] Foam Fractionator: Bekki Shower Enhancement [In reply to] Can't Post

Now this is a damn good idea. I know how to do it. What you have to do is get the water flow going from one end to the other. This will collect the foam at one end. On that the downstream side put in a plate like you have done that is placed at an angle. The hole should go in the bottom of the box not the plate. The plate should not let water past it. Behind that is the collection area. The trick to using this to collect the foam is in the wate level and direction of current in the main chamber it is attatched to. It has to be right at the edge and somewhat static. If not the foam will just re disolve back into the water column.

ROugh diagram

For this to let the foam overflow into the collection area, the water level has to be just right. If so then any build up of foam will go over the separtation plate and into collection. Put a small drain on the collection side that will give you automatic dispensing when the foam returns to liquid. I noticed something in the drawing I messed up on. The return pipes should be on the left side and they should be stand pipes. To keep the variables in pump flow under control you are going to have to use stand pipes big enough to handle the fastests flow rat your pump pushes with out a rise in water. If you are not following this idea, the pump will slow down as things get clogged up. When it does you do not want the water level in the chamber to change. If the standpipes are not designed right, the water level will drop and no foam can be collected.

Hope you understand what I am talking about.
I have another idea I will add to this that might be an easier way.

Hi Tao,

What about cutting out a piece of the net cloth and placing it over the water outlet pipes with securing cable ties
to prevent the foam from flowing into the pond?

Regards,
Thiam Hwa
