HELP!!!!!!! Pond leak Problem Can't Post

My pond is leaking terribly. I fill it up with water to full and next morning, it goes down around 3-4 inches. I read about finding the leak with milk, tried that but didn't really work.

Was thinking to reconstruct the whole pond. Are there koi ponds just constructed with concrete without pond liners? Are pond liners a must?

Can someone recommend a cheap pond constructor?

Thank you.

Well...I have decided to undertake the task of sealing the walls of my pond which is leaking with cement.

I don't know whether this is a good idea, doing it myself without any prior experience in construction work.

I have found that my walls are actually uneven and it's not easy to spread the cement over uneven walls. I would need a lot of cement.

I know I sound like a complete dummy and it's because I am when it comes cement and building walls.

Anybody has a better idea?

find the leak and repair itTongue lol, probally worth spending hte time to find it rather than rebuilding it, if it leaks that much it must be a big hole

Actually a 2 inch diameter hole could drain your pond quick.

Hi I suggest you purchase a liner, you may wake up one morning and have no water in your pondCrazy Are your fish still in the pond? If so I would not play around with this. I would get them in a safe enviroment and fix the leak.

I"m in the process of sealing the walls of the pond with cement.

After that is done, I'll fill it up with water to test if the water level still goes down.

If it does, it can only be the base and that's a real hassle.

Sigh....

All the kois are out of the pond into another tank.

Cementing isn't easy work.

Anybody know if I should make the walls even or uneven?

Hi Freer,

Sorry for my late interaction. My advice for you are:-

i)You have to clean & chafe out all the old surfaces in order to have good cement adhesion. Ordinary portland Cement doesn't stick very well by itself. I suggest u use adhesive cement, the type use to install tiles, it cost a little bit more though.

ii) After smoothen your pond surfaces with adhesive cement, apply 2 coats of polymer, brush on. There are many trade brands in the mkt. the 1 I used is cheap & still in my pond. The 1 I used was MULTI-TEC Polymer came in 2.5Kg container+accelerator cost me RM23.00 from the hardware shop in Malaysia.Where r u from?

I hope it helps
cheers

Thanks for your help Chong, I"m from Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

Do you know how long I'll have to wait for the cement to dry?

Where are you from?

Hi Freer,

The adhesive cement takes about 12 hour to set, but at least 48 hours to be fully harden. For your case you are should be only applying a thin layer over the suspected leak area. You cud actually apply the polymer after 12 hours. The surfaces should be wet when applying the polymer coating. The polymer coating cures around 4 to 8 hours if you follow the manufacture instructions_ or to apply each layers within the recommended thickness.

I live in Subang Jaya and I bought the stuff from Subang, a town located at the end of Subang Airport runway. Hareware stuff are cheaper there.

I hope this helps

Cheers
