How so you make venturi system? Can't Post

I want to add more oxygen to the pond and am interested in making a venturi system. Can anyone please let me know how to make/attach one?

Thank you

I too am interested in this topic if anyone is willing to help, they are not too common over here and I have only seen one so far here and I am interested in building one too go with my trickle tower. Are they meant to provide extra oxygen?

There is an illustrated article by Eric Lim of Singapore, circa 25 July 2000, on this forum (see link below) which gives a step-by-step procedure of fabricating a DIY venturi; it is actually in the "Hot Topics" section on the Home page.

Hi Tao,

Do you use an air pump for your system?

Hi Izani57,

You don't need an air pump for a venturi system. Just pumping water back to pond. Hope this helpsSmile

Thanks Jon,

One question, whats the maximum depth the pipe can be. and whats the ideal size of the pipe. By the way I like your ring aerator and I suppose you use an air pump right?

Hi Izani,

The ideal return pipe should be around 1' below water level and size is 2". That's what I'm usingSmile With regards with the ring aerator, yes I will be using an air pumpWink

Jon,
What if I want to place it at about 6" - 1' from the bottom of the pond. My pond average depth is about 3' or I rather use a ring aerator like yours. Do advice.

Hi Izani,

Its really up to you. I've decided to have the ring aerator rather than venturi. The there are no disadvantage on both system. But the ring has an advantage. Creating bubbles in the middle of a pond will give you a mushroom effect meaning pushing water to the middle then to bottom drain.Smile From what I read, if you live somewhere where you get snow people do recommend a tpr in the middle or lower.
My only concern is by placing the tpr too low will stir up the waste instead of dragging it to bottom drain.
I think what you're trying to do is push the water(waste) and same time adding oxygen, am I rightWink. I remember your pond long and has a few curves in it.Smile I cant remember the details of your pond. Are you installing bottom drains, if so where about???

I hope I make sensePirate

Jon

You're right about trying to push the water(waste) and same time adding oxygen as my bottom drain is not in the middle of the pond. Its at the other end actually. If you can recall my waterfall is at the left end and the bottom drain is at right end of the pond. Will the air pressure be enough to create the bubbles with that level?

Hi Izani,

Oh I forgot you're having waterfalls. According to Dr Conrad of koivet if you can hear your waterfalls 10feet away you have enough aeration in your pond.Smile If your drain is on the other end of your pond I would consider adding another return halfway of the pond (with venturi), this way you providing twice the force.Wink

Thank you Obiwan,
I will consider or rather try by adding a venturi at the middle of the pond. But have to try first whether the venturi workable or not at that water level or not. The experiment on the venturi and the ring starts tomorrow. Hope it works.

Re: [Koi38] How so you make venturi system? [In reply to] Can't Post

i can hear my waterfalls from 70-80 feet away from INSIDE my bedroom.
when i wake up, i always think its raining outside.

of course our hot temp here will minimize the dissolved oxygen in the water

Hi Mike,

As long as your neighbors don't complain. Some are a bit sensitive when it comes to noise. But waterfall noise for me is very soothingSmile Yep with our weather, just looking at the water cools you downWink

its weird, my water only drops 18-20" but spreads 10 feet across ... i didnt expect it to be that noisy. i got used to it though.
i dont really have residential neighbors.

near sto. domingo st. - i live in an industrial area, so the neighbors make more noise than my waterfalls. i use 3 submersible pumps. two units of 2000gph and a 1092 gph pump (all gross gph)

here's a small picture andy, the 97.7kb limit is very small
