How to hook bottom drain to skimmer Can't Post

I have seen tons of threads and websites showing how to install the bottom drain in the ground, but have not been able to find any info on how to hook it up to your skimmer and how to get the water flowing through. Anyone have a good link or detailed instructions? How important is a prefilter? I have the Atlantic PS700 Skimmer. (Pond is not built yet)
Thanks

Re: [Huxta] How to hook bottom drain to skimmer [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm looking for this too. My pond is up and running already, so I don't want to install the bottom drain under the liner. Hope someone will answer this.
Thanks in advance,
T.

Tancho take a look at my reply.

Most people do not want to hook up their bottom drain to their skimmer as they deal with different types of waste. For example a skimmer clears surface debris and they are usualy bouyant such as leaves twigs etc. The bottom drain takes up solid matter which the fish has excreted, dead algae etc etc which is then taken to a mechanical filtration unit where the larger units are taken out.

What i have suggested in the other post is to add a floating bottom drain- these are not as effective as in ground bottom drains but are better than having none at all.
Basically add a Y splitter to your pump. Flexible hosing can be attached to the floating bottom drain and then attach to the Y connector on the pump. The skimmer pipework can also be attached to the other Y outlet. Then all the water is pumped up to your filters and then back to the pond. However this may not be possible for everyone because adding a Y splitter will reduce the power. As the flow rate will be halved between the two componenets. e.g. half of the suction to the skimmer and half to the floating bottom drain.
Hope this helps?
