Just an Idea, Would this work ? Can't Post

Flour Mills used water to turn a water wheel to generate the power needed, was wondering if there was some way we could incorporate this into the koi Pond. Not only would it make a brilliant feature, but it alreasy has one bonus.

Instead of returning water straight back to the pond, return it back through a water wheel and then you are oxygenating the water as well. But could the wheel be link to say a Car battery to somehow charge it similar to dynamo system, this batter then could be used to say power lighting in the garden perhaps ?

Like I say was just an idea, if your having to take power for the pump, why not try and get some back ? __________________

sounds good, if you could get it to work taht is, you would need a lot of water power to supply lighting and then if it was very powerful you wouldnt get your nice tricle of a mill, but let me know if you come up with any designs!

Once you start koi you just can't stop.

Judgey's Hydroelectric Koi Pond system :D

Best way would be to run the wheel via gravity output from, say a large upper stream, or output of trickle tower which in turn rotates the dynamo to the battery which would have a voltage regulator.

The garden lights would then need to turn on automatically with the help of a 'twilight' electric switch.

Thats my idea anyway :p

Check out the 'hydroelectric' systems maybe they are more efficient?

You cannot get something for nothing. The power generated would be way less than the power expended to pump water up to the water wheel.

The water wheel is damping the fall of water and, therefore, damping the aeration effect.

For electrical efficiency, never pump water any higher than you have to. The increased flow associated with low head more than compensates for the increased splashing associated with high head.

The only reason to pump water higher than the filter intake is for aesthetics. If the water wheel is your idea of aesthetics, then go for it. I do not think the water wheel comes with any bonuses though.
