I have a 20 Gallon tall tank I know it's not a pond or a lake or anything like you guys have on here but give me a break i live in a shoebox in manhattan. So we both live in are own respective small apartments together. I have two beautiful one all white and one yellow with white scales. I've had them for about 6 weeks now. Never had koi before. I'm learning things like adding one tsp of salt per gallon which by the way I just did and to my amazement I watched their breathing slow down to a seemingly comfortable level the way they breathe in the pet store. Before it looked like they couldn't breathe fast enough then I read about the benefits of adding salt due to osmothsis and other things and couldn't believe it would work so quickly. I'm also learning about the dangers of overfeeding to water temp and filtration systems. These message boards have been very helpfull.
So I figured I'd add my first post. I am definitely hooked on these guys and want to keep them as healthy as possible.
If any of you more experienced koi people have any advice for me i'm all ears. Thanks. The white one is about 4 1/2 inches and the yellow one is about 5 1/2 inches.
Thanks

I've included a photo of the white one just after I bought the little guy.

Thats nice, I'm sure they'll be quite happy in the 20 gallon tank as they grow up.

However, they will grow up, and bearing in mind that they can reach 40cm without too much trouble you'll need to be prepared.

I figure in about 6 months I'll be sketching plans to be building a huge in home DYI aquarium. I figure It will be at least 100 gallons. I figure that would be suffice to keep any size koi especially if I don't get too many. I really want to create a freshwater habitat with other domestic freshwater fish hush hush. So I can have a more interesting assortment. This is my goal. Thanks all.
