To determine whether the biofilter is sufficient, we'll need an estimate of the potential fish and their length now and in the future (to compensate for growth). Different biomedia play their part in the bio conversion process, with each media being either more efficient or less efficient than its counterparts. So, for a start, we'll need to answer the first question, and the second one with your experience of your current biomedia, and its effects on ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and PH levels. As for the current filter, dimensions, and water storage capacity might be helpful in determining the answer. The vortex you have...looks good :), perhaps shoot for a larger biologicial filter? or even a switch to lava rocks? (Its cheap where I'm from in Australia...25kgs for $10 ($5 US) - I have 600kgs of lava rock stil awaiting for their use in my third pond.
