Plants for pond Can't Post

I always think that plants in the pond will be good for the kois as the plants will consume nitrate, earlier this year I put some water lettuce in the pond, but the fish finished them off in less than 30 minutes, yesterday I found a simple solution on how to protect the plants from the fish.....
I used a basket, the small bottles are used to make the basket float, want to use stereoform but can not find one...

Final result....

Cheers,
Edo

Shocked Wow. you must have very hungry koi. I've put the same plants in my pond, they don't disappear like that! They must need it or something. My understanding is that the lettuce is not a problem with parasites. However, the habiscus does come sometimes with a parasite that is not suppose to be harmful to koi. It's not the first time I've heard of koi being that hungry for certain things. ...cuda

Once I tried too hard to control things in the pond....the frogs left.

Yeah,
I think I don't feed them enough, then they have to find some other alternatives....Another thing is my all my kois are really "pigs", my father and myself like to feed them anything that we think is eadible, alomost all types of vegetables and fruits that we ever eat, my kois have tried it. Whenever there are any greens in the pond, the fish will give a bite.UnimpressedUnimpressedUnimpressedUnimpressed

Cheers....
