Prevent pump clogging Can't Post

Hi Folks,
This sketch shows how a small pump can be prevented from clogging by putting the pump inside a peforated plastic container, then wrap the whole contraption with a nylon stocking, perhaps steal one from your sponse? ... hehe!Tongue

Of course this setup has its drawbacks, but I find it particularly useful for my breeding tank, not only does it prevent clogging it also screen out the small fries.

Hope this is useful.
Regards, Micky

Hello, I have done the same and it works, one differance is I used Jap. Mat inside the plastic box to prevent my pump from clogging!and then from this the water is pumped up to my trickle towers where it falls thru and back into the pond!

ayranjim,

i'd like to try this too, purpose is to act like a prefilter before the pump draws any gunk into the 2nd chamber (bio filter).

what did you use to make the container?

Hello, I went to a store and bought a plastic box, those that have lids, and then I drilled small hole in the lid, and one bigger hole for the tube that leaves the pump, That way you can shut the box! So on the inside I have the pump and it is sorrounded by the Jap. mat! So the water must first pass through small holes on the lid, then it must pass through the jap .mat, by this time there is no particles! You do have to pull this box ( prefilter) out and clean the mat, but I do that every 2 or 3 months!
