Sand filter with diff. media for first chamber? Can't Post

Does it sound like a pool sand filter filled with different media besides sand, screened on both sides so media won't leave filter could be used as a first chamber for mechanical filtration? Have the pump after the last chamber, have a pipe after the pump (with control valves) extend back to the filter for a backwash only pipe. So there will be a ball valve after the "T'eed" valve (for the backwash) to close off the pond for backwash. Wish I could post a drawing. I'm getting a free pool filter and when I did my pond 2,500 gallons I thought I could use it instead of letting go to waste. I would of course use a different pump. I would be a gravity system.

Any comment, even if you think I'm crazy, please. Thank you.
I have about 7 months to design a pond, and just trying to save money but do it right, or at least think I'm doing it right.
Thanks.

You can use as static filter. A lot of ppl use them either static or moving bedCool And if you're planning to use K1 or similar media I can't why your design wouldn't work and no you're not crazyCrazy, you're just being constructive mateWink

Thank you, I'll read other ideas and try to figure out something that will work. I think I might even keep the pool filter in the plumbing, maybe I would get a better backwash with the high pressure pump but use a pond filter for the 24/7 work. Just wondering if I could eliminate the settlement chamber and use the pool filter with different media to catch it?
Thanks again.

Depends on the size of this unit, but pool filters are not that big and will not be sufficient enough to the job as static filter for your pond. A proper should have settlement specially you're going to gravity feed system route. If I were you I'll still have settlement, trust me coz if you don't you will be kicking yourself later onShockedTongue

Thanks,
I will have a settlement chamber like you advise. I did a quick diagram, when I scan it I will get it on here. Thanks again. The pool filter was just going to backwash the pool filter chamber and not the others, all will have discharge drains, just thought the pool filter chamber would need more cleaning. Pond size will be about 2500 - 3000 gallons.
