Trickle Tower design Can't Post

Hopefully I will be able to upload the picture of my design. Does it look like it will work to stop this green water? What should I do with the bottom part should I put more bio-balls or just leave it alone? The reason for the bottom area is it wil partly be underground there, that is why the output is high.

Ditto.

TT is more efficient in terms of allowing the good bacteria access to high levels of oxygen as it comes down. Upflow..well you get the idea.

As Koi38 stated, prefiltration on a TT is fairly important. You can use a second 30 gallon for a settlement chamber. Basically water would flow in from the top/side etc of the settlement tank, and feed the TT from a outlet pipe located close to the top into the TT.

Yes I would love to make one that had upflow an be more of a normal TT, but my parents do not want the big bucket or drum in the back of the stream as they would not like how it looked. So would this new design make it more of a really small bakkie showers not relly a TT anymore. In the top one I was thinking of making a hole near the top intead of the bottom to make it a somewhat of a settlement chamber. Then for accessing oxygen wouldnt it do so by dripping down to the next one and the top of the buckets being open? Changed the V like rock to a bigger flower pot, bucket to have some more bio-balls and lava rocks inside and redirect water to the stream. I am mainly trying to help clear up the small green water problem we have. Do you think it will work koiguy? Also should be putting a roof on the pond soon so it will not catch as much sunlight. Thanks in advance, sorry for late reply thought no one replied.

If it has the right capacity for the pond the TT should work.

Instead of using bioballs, use all lava rocks. I used bioballs once, but I found it took longer to cycle then the lava rocks did.

If it still doesn't clear in a week, a larger TT would need to be considered (or additional potsSly).

Do you have a UV light??? This will also help controlling the green water (30watts at least)

If you have one pls ignore my questionSmile

There is one in our filter, but I am not sure how many watts it is. Wish you had told me no bio balls earlier because I have 1000 of them coming in the mail. Blush
Yes I have heard someone say before that they took longer. It is ok, at least the lava rocks will be working, I can wait for the bio balls to start because my water is not totally green, actually if a fish or something goes to the bottom you can see it. It will be blurry, but its not that bad.

Hi Koi,
Every filter media we use has pros and cons, its up to individuals preferencesSmile For instance Lava rocks. This will mature a lot quicker than bioballs when use as biofilter. But you also have to think the weight of a 200L drum filled with Lava rocks compare to a 200L drum with bioballs. If you have to clean your biofilter, which one do you think is heavier??? What about the Nexus filters, they work like a dream very low maintenance but for the price of $$$$Shocked. (I got nothing against these filters please, just explaining the pros and consWink) I hope you understand what I'm getting atSmile
