above ground pool safe? Can't Post

I just bought a 12' diameter above ground pool made by aqua leisure. Have any of you guys used this type of pool as a temporary holding tank/qt? I need feedback about this please.

Thanks a lot!

Actually, quite a few people use these type pools for QT and temporary holding tanks and you will also see them used at many koi shows. Just make certain you clean any manufacturing residues from the liner material and let the water age well before adding koi.

Salted or PP treated water to wash it down with should work well. I know Koi38 has done this as he used an above ground pool for a holding tank while he was building his present pond. Maybe he'll chime in here and give you some firsthand adviseSmile

I'm hereTongue

I used salt when I cleaned my kiddy pool. Dump a bag of swimming pool salt(25kg) and fill it up to about half a foot of water. Try to dessolve as much salt as you can. Use soft brush and a lot of elbow greaseTongue Give it a good scrub allover. Rinse it well. You can use some pond water for the final rinse or leave it under the sun to dryCool Please do not use any cleaning chemicals like bleach or detergent. They will leave some residue that can be harmful to our friendsShocked

I had my koi in this kiddy pool for almost 5 monthsShockedWink

Larry,

Are you spying on meMadLaughTongue

Jon I alway used a small amount of bleach when cleaning and dishwashing liquid. If you rinse well you wont have any problem. I have done this for many years and also used on all glass tanks, its just that you must rinse well. I did this with my new set up this past spring and then put eggs in the pond. They hatched and were doing fine untill Jack decided that I did not have any fry in the pool and made me empty it, when I got home from work he had noticed a bunch of fry in the small amount of water that was left in the pool and told me about it when I got home from work, said I had small fry in the pool.. I was sooooooooooooooo mad. The residue that are in the tank are far worse for the koi than a little bleach witch the declore will get rid of when you put the right amount in the pool.Wink Just thinking I need to let you knowSly

Hi Judy,

It might have worked with you in the past and still working forCool I just rather use salt for cleaning coz if your left some of it it will not harm the fish, IMHO.Smile

BTW...............what did you do to JackLaughLaughLaugh

I cleaned him with bleach and dishwashing liquidTongue. Jon what are you talking about, What did I do to JackCrazy

Oh by the way that is the same pool that I used for my fry and I cleaned with a small amount of bleach and dishwashing liquid and its not that hard to rinse well. What I done was put a little bleach on a rag and some dishwashing liquid and washed the inside down with that rag, if you take cap off the drain and start rinsing the water will go out the drain. I also just picked up the pool and let the water run over the sides and out. If you have a deck or something you can lay the pool out over the sides you can use your hose pipe and rinse very easy.

If you want to get a good water going in that pool set it up and fill with water and add a cup of triple 13 ferterlize and let the water turn green then empty and fill back up and for sure after this process you will not have a problem.
