Great article on S. Pool Sand filter conversion to a Koi Pond filter... I have just used 2 pool filters to do the same ... However, I used a cartiage filter for the mechanical filter and a Dyagnous (spelling) Earth filter for a Bio filter(Bioballs) ... Unfortunately, the cartiage filter isn't large enought to do the job so considering converting a used sand filter to take on the job as mechanical filter... Was a bit concerned in your article at the amount of water exchange required on a weekly basis.... My only water supply is chlorinated and a 20/25% water change weekly would be a problem... Wondered if you considered using a small grit or small stones (1/2 marble size) instead of sand as the filtering agent...or a misture of large to small stones ??? Possibly a second mechanical filter with a K1 type of material ...maybe after the sand filter??? Suggesting would be appreciated... I feel that a filter/waste/rinse/backwash control is the only way to properly clean a filter with NO PROBLEMS!!!!! Thanks, Jim
