diy filter thoughts Can't Post

Hope everyone is having a good day i am about to make a diy barrel filter and possibly a diy vortex. I would really like to hear about your diy filter success and ones that you were not happy with. Please post some info about them and the design and let us know what you thought of it as well what you may have done diff if you had the chance.

my mistakes:

1) get big sized bipes for the barrels
2) there cant be too much slope to the barrel drain (even if its shaped like a pencil, its all good)

I used it with the gold fish fiberglass tank of 300 ltrs.

The above used 3 barrels. I saw the DIY one at koi farm in BKK as well using 4-200 ltrs plastic barrel. The first one is used as mechanic filter. The 3 last one is used as bio filter by putting Japanese Filter Mat in side.

BTW the above one is very easy to clean.

hmmm bio balls [In reply to] Can't Post

Okay anyone got ideas for a bio filter using say 3000' bio balls for a bio filter. That is one thing i am able to get at with ease. Would like to figure out a way to get a gravity fed shower over it after the mech filter so as to help the gases. was thinking about maybe a 2 barrels and some plastic with some holes on it so the water splash's down on it and under the plastic some filter fiber to help it spread over the bio balls to trickle/ shower over the bio balls.

Hey DJ Bartender!

You've been to www.koivet.com's message board right? You've seen those crate based trickle towers perhaps? Definitely the crates are a good option, make sure its food grade or at least non toxic for food storage uses.

Homemade Filter Problems [In reply to] Can't Post

I built a barrell filter. I cut the holes in the barrell for the piping and the outlets. Though I can't get a good seal, i have been using silicone though it doesn't seem to be doing the trick. Does anyone have any suggestions.
