diy pond with bottom drain Can't Post

Hi,

I'm not new here, I just rarely post and this screen name is new because I can't remember my old one. Anyway let me get to the point. Of the two ponds I've built, non of them have a bottom drain, I just attached a pvc pipe with holes in it, to the pump, to let it act as the bottom drain. I'm planing on building a new pond when I move to a new house in a couple months. My question is how do i attach the bottom drain to the pond liner without any leaks? I'm afraid to cut the liner and if it leaks... it'll be a huge problem. I remember reading a thread on how to do that , but can't remember where it is. It mentioned how i glue the pieces of liner together. If I do that, wouldn't the water sips thru? I could construct the new pond out of concrete, but that's going to cost alot compared to liner.... so any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks! Smile
Thanks ^_^
John

Hi to you tooTongue

When I bought my bottom drain it came with an instruction on how to attach it to a liner or concrete. It also comes with a ring for liner installation, be sure you get itSmile

All you have to do is set the bottom drain in a concrete. A tip, get some pipe solvent and apply it around out side of the bottom drain, slap some sand on it and let it dry before setting it to a concrete. This will help the concrete to adhere to you BDCool Once your BD is set(24hrs atleast) you can then place the liner on top. Get everything ready like silicon glue, scissors, cutters, etc, etc. Locate you BD and place some weights around it so the liner will not move. Cut a small access hole where your BD is, apply silicon on the BD lip and to the underside of your liner and press it down. Apply silicon on top of your liner around the BD, get the ring and the screws and screw it down slowly until you've sandwich the liner. They say silicon should hold after 24hrs but I will leave it for two days atleast. I hope I cover your question. If I missed something let us knowSmile

Jon

Re: [Koi38] diy pond with bottom drain [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Jon, thank you so much for the wonderful instructions. I never thought installing a bottom drain would be this much hassle... Well now my questions are all answered, its time for me to start doing my research on all the materials needed. I had a few flaws with my previous pond, so I'm trying to make this one as good and flawless as possible. I'll post up pictures when the construction starts, which won't be in at least a couple of months, probably early spring.

Thanks!Sly
Thanks ^_^
