im gonna need some help and ideas Can't Post

hey i am planning to build a new pond..the only problem is that we cant dig a hole because it is not our house so i am planning to use wood and linen...so when i move..maybe i can take it with me too...

i am wondering how many gallons i should make the pond be since i have 18 kois.... and i am planning to build my own filter

i am also wondering if a side hole would work the same as a down drain...

thanks

Dear koi714

I have made a few tempary ponds before. Alot depends on where you live. Here in england they are only sutable for the spring summer. As it gets to cold in winter to keep them.

If you get the hollow blocks and make a pond maybe 3 foot high and bang in big wooden stakes into the ground the kind that hold fences. You could put in bottom drains and have a realy good filter system.

But don't underestimate water and its weight. You could build around the blocks with wood for extra strength, and it will make it more pleasant to the eye. but go for as large a pond as possible with 18 fish i would say you need about 4000 gallons or more if possible.

Good luck anyway.

You can get a bottom drain now that does not go into the ground but is like an upturned funnel which is lifted slightly clear of the bottom and is connected to a pump and then to your filter.
Try a search for a retrofit bottom drain

Cheers Mark

Hello, I have done the following, buy a big pool! I have one that is 2000 gal. they dont cost much, in fact they are much cheaper than buy the wood and stuff! They work great! They are the pools that you can put together in a few, then make a trickle tower! since you are above ground you can have the trickle tower were the water falls right back into the pool, one thing is they are POOLS so they are not real pretty, but! who cares!
