BandarRaya fish/ Algae munchers - do they bite koi? Can't Post

for those msians in this forum, you would understand what fish i'm referring to. those that much on the algae on the floor and walls.

on the weekend, i was informed by a fish shop owner that bandaraya fish do attack koi. and the symptons are like red bite marks on the side of the koi. i've noticed that 2 of my koi recently had these.

any truth to bandaraya fish biting koi?

Hi cykoed,

There are conflicting reports on pleco but mine has been co-existing with my koi without any incident the past 3 years. The pair of them are about 2 feet now whereas my koi range from 75cm to less than 40cm. None of my koi has any bite marks or signs of injuries from the pleco... touch wood Tongue.

If you have yet to introduce pleco into your pond, do consider even if they do not attack your koi, their rough skin and spiky fins may inevitably cause minor damage to the koi. However, they do a wonderful job of cleaning the algae carpet on the pond wall Wink.

Cheers,
Dennis

i have them in my tanks with no problem. I have heard from others though that some are just aggressive for reasons unknown. I would not assume though that the red marks are from the algae eatters.

Once I tried too hard to control things in the pond....the frogs left.
