Building you own HOMEMADE FILTER Can't Post

Some of you must be expert in this area. Could someone tell me recommend me quality sealer to bind a couple of 1 1/2inches PVC pipes onto my newly acquired cyclindrical fibre glass tank.

Building you own HOMEMADE FILTER [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi KKLee
I am no expert in this area but I had a good round of experience for 4 'good' weeks fixing up a homemade filter. As that was my first experience, there were lots of mistakes along the way ranging from cutting over-sized holes to types of sealer used.

The greatest challenge binding the PVC pipes to the filter box. Some binding materials melts while others just couldn't do the job. A lady from States whom I spoke to tipped me off with her experience of a 1000gal filter system. Silicon sealer won't do the job due to the water pressure and its weight. She recommended me to use "waterproof glue sticks". These sticks come in various sizes and you select them by their load. Low, medium and heavy duties. The heavy duty electric loading gun costs about S$15 while the stick which comes in a packet of a dozen sticks cost S$2.50. When the gun gets heated up, the stick will just melt into the joint and bind the 2 materials together. Each joint takes about 15 minutes and ready. These materials are obtainable from any hardware or handyman stores.

Hope this help.

To fix connection on cyclindrical tank is not easy, especially when you need the connection on the sides. On the bottom is easier. If tank diameter is large and the pipe is small, it is still OK.

I would use a normal PVC Tank Connector but with a suitable gasket. Need to tank height to recommend a suitable gasket material. Silicon is OK if tank height/water level is NOT too high. A sure way is to use the normal PVC tank Connector and seal the area with fibre glass. You can buy a small amount of fibre wool and the epoxy to seal the connector sides against the tank wall.

Hello Kk LEE
HOW BIG IS YOUR CYLINDRICAL FIBER TANK
IF THE TANK DIAMETER IS LARGE USE A PVC. TANK CONNECTOR WITH A TWO GASKET.
IF NOT USE FIBERGLASS AS NG.PK SUGGESTED.
