aryan8277...

Local koi are usually from local pond breeders....they may not have the facilities at a commercial level to produce high quality fish...

In Japan, it's a big time money making business....one important thing....they have mud ponds to house the koi until they're big and healthy to be exported....those are expensive and not always easy to find..Wink

Another factor is that the Japanese breeders cull their koi very strictly, keeping only the desirable and profitable ones to grow and sale.

there is on;y a slim chance that a local can be better then an import in terms of quality...Smile

just finished my pond. with new pond syndrome going on " green water". 4 step filter chamber. brush in first chamber, jap matt in second, corals in third , uv and active carbon in 4th. lost 10 of my kois during this pond construction due to power loss. First batch that i bought when they were 2 inch in size and died around 10-12 inch. sad to see but cant do much... pond running in green water. filter not clicked yet... may take a month or 2 ... water change 1/4 every week. fish look healthy, havent done thorough check...

lots of work..

there are many Japanese Koi breeders but when buying koi should go to the show qualtiy koi breeder due to selective breeding they produce a good bloodline which until now even China can't surpass.

In other countries starting to catch up like Singapore they have jumbo koi I saw it in channel news Asia
