Hi "Coral Media" Coral is not a good choice as filter media. If coral are used, there is no way to flush the dirt from the filter chamber and this will lead to various diseases and "Hikkui"&medication will not overcome the problem as the disease will recur as long the dirt&wast is still stuck at the coral, and if you change out coral every month or so ,you will have no filtern in all,and it will be not so economical&effect filter media as you think. coral are alkaline this increase the hardness.this will effect red pigment on your koi. Different water quality conditions can have a major impact on coloration of koi.("ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate") will cause the pigment to contract, resulting in koi losing color,ph.and hardness effect coloration differently,Red pigment tends to spredin soften ,more acid water, whereas black pigment tends to spred in harder more alkaline water and vice versa. Koi should to well in moderate hard water (80 to150ppm)&carbonate hardness 150 to 300 ml/l. i hope you change your mind about coral ,as the dealer only make mony out of it .and you have all the work . Have you used "synthetic fiber matting"this is the way to gofor bio.filter.mony well spend. By shiro
