Hi! Can't Post

I'm a new member, and I'm really enjoying the wealth of information on this forum.

I've always enjoyed koi, but I never thought I'd have any. Koi are truly the puppies of the fish world! I had been keeping a freshwater fish tank for four years when I set up a separate fish tank for my husband and asked him to choose his fish. It took him months to decide on something, until one day when he saw a small koi that really liked. We purchased two koi that day- the one he liked, and another to keep him company.

That was the end of April, now it's September, and they've both grown five inches! We kept them a 28 gal bowfront until late August, when we moved them to a 75 gallon tank with xp3 canister filter. (By the end of their time in the small tank, I was doing daily water and filter media changes to keep the water quality acceptable.) I realize that an aquarium isn't ideal, but we're hoping they won't grow too much until I can figure out how to build an outdoor or indoor pond. (I know, I'm a little backwards, and should have really had the pond first.)

I'm really enjoying these guys. I spend a lot of time with them daily, watching them, and feeding them small amounts throughout the day. They were feeding from my hand until we transferred them into the big tank. Moving was a bit traumatic for them, but they seem to be settling in quite well (although they seem to have a preference for one side of the tank.) I'm not about having the biggest or best koi, but I am concerned with giving the little guys a happy and healthy life. I really appreciate all that I'm learning from this forum!

Thanks,
jillian
