How to setup Web cam over internet Can't Post

Hi,

Any one knows how to set up a webcam over the internet so that you can monitor or admire your koi and pond 24/7?

This may sound like I'm going nuts over koi CrazyCrazy....but I'm station in Thailand where my precious koi will be in my Singapore home. The only way for me to see my fish is to go back Singapore once every 2 weeks. Pretty expensive solution.

So if anyone out there knows what is the most economical way to do this, please let me know. I don't have to be online 24hours a day, 7 days a week. I don't mind setting up my PC so that if I access to the web, with some password, I can have the web server dial into my home computer and show the video images.

Any good idea will be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Patrick

Planning to do this.

1. Get TMNet Streamyx ADSL broadband unlimited access RM88/= per month.

2. Have PC on with WinXP 24 hours with Internet Information Server installed. With DNS2GO client and setup a domain name free like mykoi.dns2go.com which is free for home use. Then setup DNS2GO to keep the line active all the time as TMNet drop your line everyfew hour so that you do not have a fix IP.

3. Go out and spend $$$ for a webcam that allows you to have a webcam server and run the cable so that camera points to the fish pond if got lots of $$$ then add more camera for different angle.

4. So when you are abroad or in the office you can connect to the internet and open you browser or the Webcam and point the IP address to mykoi.dns2go.com and it will connect to your PC and live picture can be send to your PC.

Hows that for an idea and I think it will work. Just have to wait for the services so maybe in the next few week.

Andy,

Sounds exactly like what I have in mind. Thanks so much for the information. Since you are setting it up, please let us know how it works....may be you can help provide a procedure on this forum so more people can benefit.

May be in the near future, we can share with each other our webcam site address so that we can admire each others' fishes and may be can help each other troubleshoot desease or sickness of fish too. Sounds too good to be true??? SmileSmileSmile

Thanks,
Patrick

Webcams sounds like a great idea to me also. I would love to set one up for my new pond I will be building soon. I will be taking some pics and posting before, during, and after it is finished. I will also post my plans on the setup to see if I may have overlooked something that will be needed.

RichardD,

Welcome to the forum. It is a great pleasure to see another koi hobbyist starting a new pond. So please feel free to post your pond construction pictures under the "Member's Pond" so that we can all admire your creation. Smile

For your pond design, this is the perfect place to get advise and consultation absolutely free of charge....and you get to meet a lot of very friendly people with the same interest.

So keep us posted on the progress.

Cheers,
Patrick
