I saw pics of your pond. You did have a net over them. I don't like nets myself because they do look ugly, but they work. Other suggestions would be fishing line. The fishing line has to be strung across your raised stone work about 5 inches apart. I don't know how large of a kingfisher you have, but this spacing has to be small enough that the bird will be too afraid to swoop down. I heard that birds with their good eyesights can see the fishing line. It just comes down to judgment, can it be enter and leave without getting caught in the line. Herons and storks will usually fly and land near, then walk in. Kingfisher will dive in and fly up with the fish prey in one swoop. So it's up to you about the spacing. I don't know if your blocks are cemented down, but if they are not, then you can wrap and try the fishing lines around the blocks before putting it back in its place. Otherwise you have to build a frame or set up a whole bunch of pegs or screws. That's a lot of work. The other suggestion is to build a pergola so birds flying overhead will not notice a pond beneath them with fish for food. There's no guarantees on this one. Plus there's a lot of labour or/and cash involved in making a pergola. The other option, is to grow more lilies. It's more natural looking. It will keep the fisher cooler during the day b/c they can hide underneath. It also gives them some protection (visually) from predators. But there's no guarantees on this one. It's often a combination that will give you the best protection. Nets are the best, but they sure are ugly. If you live in a place with pressurized water, then you might consider this: Scarecrow motion-sensitive (PIR) sprinkler water repeller I think it's too slow for a bird that's small and fast like a Kingfisher, but awesome for herons, storks, cats, dogs, raccoons ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Short-term intense, (obsessive) hard work to long-term laziness.
