Mass spawning and fry deaths, water quality..

Hi, I had a mass spawning in my pond and put the pond water into the containers, then put the eggs in there that were attached to the plants...it "seems" that there were a lot of unfertilized eggs that fouled the water and killed a whole bunch of fry..what did I do wrong? For the past two years I have had one female to spawn, and raised fry with miminal problems..I had "four" females to spawn this year..the pond water is just awful and I have been working on it, first a 50% change of water, then 10% water changes and have scooped out millions of unfertilized eggs...I "was" able to save one container of fry's..so far so good with them..Don't know if this is posted in the right section, but since it was both breeding "and" quality of water..I posted here...any tips would be appreciated..should I have not taken the pond water into the containers? thanks mookey
