Newbie seeks advice, tank, website, heater, lid Can't Post

Hello All!!! Please help a newbie.

I have loved Koi for a long time, although I will not be able to have a pond of my own for another couple years. I did receive a free 50 gallon glass tank(with no lid) and a stand. I also purchased a new Emperor 400 filter. I know that Koi are not meant to live in a tank their whole lives, but would like to purchase 1-3 very high quality, tiny baby koi and keep them for a year or two eventually going into my pond(or I may give them away).

I would like the recommendations on the following:
  1. What type of heater should I get(it’s summer now and very warm, so this is not an asap need)

2.What type of top and light fixture should I get, I was told to go to a glass store to make the top?
  1. I have successfully had a fresh water tank along time ago and will remember to make sure and cycle the tank w/ feeder fish first, Is there anything else I am forgetting?

  1. I would like some tiny koi, but extremely high quality. Probably butterfly and I would like to see pictures before I purchase. I am willing to pay a good amount for them, maybe $70-$100 each. I live in Santa maria, CA, and can’t find a good source locally, is there a good website to purchase from?

THANKS!!!!!

tiny koi might not survive during winter it should be taken out of the pond and put it indoors. That what other's do during winter season even their kois are very huge to avoid damage to the koi they love.
