I have a pond approx. 17,000 gallons with twenty koi. The KOI generally are fair size approx. 12-14 inches. I recently purchased a KOI and observe no unusal marks on the fish. However, ever since I put the koi in the pond it does not eat or at least does not eat with the other koi. This koi stays by intself generally in one part of the pond. Again, having examined the koi it does not appear to have any markings indicating a disease it also is approx. in the same condition as when purchased. However, generally if not at all times whenever I put a new KOI in the pond it would eat at the first feeding with the other fish. Another point the movements of this koi seem to be normal, it just at all time stays by itself and I have never seen it eat. I have this koi for approx. two weeks. I only once before experienced a shy koi and that was a very small one which i thought had disappeared from the pond but appeared towards the end of the summer, it must have been hiding all summer. However, again I cannot see any evidence of disease and wonder if anyone has observed this behavior in a pond my size occuppied by as I said before twenty KOI. One more point is that this particular KOI is approx. on the large size when compared to the average size of the KOI in the pond. Would appreciate some advice. I have been considering returning this KOI being afraid it was diseased even though I detect none. Please help!
