In marketing sense... cheap things are never good... I'm just joking, but I guess this is the general perception of anyone responding to an advertisement ... :-)

Ok, jokes aside...:-(
Good Koi have wide price range. It may be from a couple of hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands of dollars. Maybe, the question I will consider when starting this hobby is
"WHAT IS MY BUDGET".
So much for the price. You also mentioned that you have been keeping discus for a long time. I am just wondering about newbies like myself, do I know the difference as compared to tropical(small) fishes keeping, cost and implication when I want to start a koi hobby?
Need to give this a good thought!

Hi SeaBass,

You can purchase KOI of Japanese origin in many koi shop is KL and Selangor area. Refer to the dealer directory at www.koi.com.my/dealer.html

The KOI may cost you may RM 50.00 to RM 100.00 per piece and it is difficult to get high quality koi with these price.

One of our friends indeed purchase a small koi for about RM 350.00 and the koi indeed grown up as a very nice koi which he subsequently sold it at more than RM 20,000.00. So it is depend on your ability to choose and very much depend on your luck anyway.

To get a high quality koi, the generally selling price is ranging from RM 1,000 to RM xx,000 depending on size and breed.

Hope that help Smile

Thank you so much for your info, itdmraa and cch. yeah, i've been looking a round lately for japanese and i found out the price range of nice KOI around RM 100 to thounsands of dollar depending on he size mostly. i've been to the Arowana Speacialist Centre in Taman Tan Yew Lai since i stay near there. They have quite a number of different KOI there.

yeah, I've been keeping discus fish since for some time, since i was form 1 n i used to breed them last time, but due to some water changes 'accident' many pairs died. Also Im wondering if anyone here also share the same interest as me(keeping discus fish) other than keeping KOI.

Hi SeaBass,

Five year ago, I kept 5 pairs of discus which I purchased at RM 1,000 per pair. The challenge then was to control water quality and maintain the right water acidity for breeding. After many successful breeding, I end up with too many discus and finally gave all of them away. Now I keep only Koi in my garden pond.

And u gave them all away ?? arrghghghghg..im dying for more good quality discus now. As for now im onli keeping around 20 juvenile discus, pigeon blood, tefe green and snakes skin.
