blue heron!! Can't Post

Hi all,

I'm typing this message with the seething rage and thirst for vengence I haven't felt for some time now. Over the weekend, a great blue heron paid a couple of visits to my pond, the first time it was scared away when I opened the blinds and let in the morning sun. When I went downstairs half an hour later, I saw it flew away from the pond again. I didn't think much of it expect making a mental note of maybe putting on the old ugly netting again, but I was reassuring myself that the kois are bigger now so they can't be easy prey for the bird.

Much to my horror, when I went to the backyard to feed my kois, I found one of the bigger ones ( about 12" long) was laying by the side of pond with a few nasty spear wounds on the sides. It was dead!!

The plastic heron decoy didn't seem to work this time.

The ugly netting is back and I am purchasing an air rifle so next time I see the bluw heron, there will be a dead heron!

Ugh!!!

To keep the koi in my pools safe, I keep a small dog with a big mouth tied close to them. Man's best friend is also a koi keepers best friend.

Hi,

I dont know what country your posting from, but if your in England then there is a £5000 fine or 6 months in prison for killing a heron. Its a protected species.

I was toying with the idea of killing a heron that kept visiting my pond but didn't want the hassle if somene saw me shoot it.
