liner chewed Can't Post

I just finished pulling out my waterfall and liner. I have found several chew holes through my liner. There are several tunnels dug under and through the dirt under my waterfall and liner has several holes under the waterfall and in my filter hose as well. what can I do so this wont happen again next year. I have had a pond for about 4 years now and this is a first. do I need to eliminate the dirt under my water fall and build it up with stone? can I add somthing to the soil to deter them ?Them i would assume is mice.

Hello, this is one of the reasons why CEMENT is better, liners are faster to install and cheaper ( to some degree) but this is one of the problems that come with liners. One solution is to lay about a 2 inch or more layer of cement under the liner and this will stop the mice, or about 3 inches of heavy crushed gravel. You have provided a good safe place for the rates, they have shelter, water and food! Try to also kill of the mice or rats with poisons!
