Need to give up some koi Can't Post

I have 7 KOI in a very small outdoor pond. They are over crowded and I need to give a few up. If i measure them from nose to tip of tail, a couple are about 18 to 20 inches and a few smaller ones. I need to give 4 away. I'm in Ontario California. Help! I do not want them to die. My first pond and did not know what I was getting into.

By the way, remember to give them to a good home and maybe ask the new owner some questions about their pond and fish husbandry, because I'm sure you won't want your lovely koi to go to another overcrowded, yukky pond.

Of course, this is now a perfect excuse to build another larger pond ;)

Re: [Koi38] Need to give up some koi [In reply to] Can't Post

Greetings,

First post here. My wife & I are in the process of buying a home w/a 4k gal koi pond in the back. The current owner has asked that I keep his fish for a few months until he can build a pond at his new home, so I am hopeful that (with his help) I should be able to ease into koi ownership w/o too many problems.

I have been away from fish for a few years, but look forward to getting back into it, especially with such a beautiful and diverse species like koi.

If you are not sucessful with the store sale idea, our new home is in Orange County and we will be moving in during the last week of July.

Thanks for all the advise. I have asked some of the pet stores but no luck. I found someone local that might take them. they are building a water garden and it looks pretty big but they have not decided if they want to add any fish yet. Contact me when your pond is complete and if I have not found anyone to take them by then we can try and arrange something.

I would be more than happy to take some of your koi off your hands. I'm located in Victorville, CA. My in-laws live in Upland, which isn't too far from you in Ontario. If you are interested in giving some of your koi to me, let me know. I'm usually in your area every weekend.

If you'd like to see photos of you koi's possible new home, please visit www.josephandgabby.com/pond.

Thanks!
