36th All Japan Combined Nishigikoi Tosai – Showa

Last weekend, most of the reputed breeders from the koiland were in town for the Sentul Park Koi Centre opening ceremony by our beloved Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

The breeder added fun to the event by bringing in some hand picked Tosais. Inter Alia, there were 10 Maruyama Showa tosais specially selected by Futoshi Maruyama, spawned from the 36th All Japan Combined Nishigikoi Showa Grand Champion bred by Maruyama Koi Farm. The male koi is Maruyama bloodline.

I managed to successfully bid for one of the tosais and the pix is posted here for your comments.

It is going into the mud pond at Janda Baik. For those you missed the pomp and splendour pls see General Discussion section for more comments and pixs.

Hi Mohan,

During the seminars, I think Futoshi Maruyama mentioned that the male koi used for spawning was a 4 years old from Dainichi bloodline and not a Maruyama bloodline.
I think Luke should be in a better position to confirm that.
I am glad that you have chosen the mud pond for your very beautiful tosai.
The koi has all the trademarks of a "Show Koi" after six months in the mud pond.

Best Regards,
ThiamHwa

Yes, I must say that all the traits of a good Showa are present. Congratulations once again. Your excitement and investment should multiply many folds during harvest time in the months to come. Rgds.
Always friendly :)

Hello Thiamhwa,
T Q for your kind comments.
It shud be Dainichi male & not Maruyama- it is a typo error. If you had seen my
earlier post under the Gen discussion section you will observe that I have stated as
Dainichi.
I learned lately that Shigero Komatsu the proud owner of the champion Showa purchased it at
an auction. During the last devastating earthquake that hit the koiland, this beautiful Showa
almost died in Nogami' mud pond. They only rescued it 1 week after natures cruel onslaught
on the homeland of koi.

Hello Weetin.
T Q for your kind comments.
According to Futoshi Maruyama it is a female.
When harvested from the mud pond if it is worthwhile posting. I will
obviously post a pix.
Do you all see any demerit ?

Re: [Mohan Ghandi] 36th All Japan Combined Nishigikoi Tosai – Showa [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello Koi kichis,

To keep up with my promise, I am posting the pix taken two months after harvest (Dec 06 -54cm) and today (64cm). It was 51cm at the time of harvest. When harvested it became a Ki Showa form a Hi Showa and the Sumi on the head was disappearing. However, the Beni had emerged and the Sumi is still not stable.

Following Maruyama traits, I presume that it will grow longer and then bulk up. Once if it bulks up and the Sumi reappears, my dream will come through!

Any Comments koi Kichis?

Hi Kemeer,
Thanks. What are your comments on the fries?
The showa is doing well. There appears to be no fundamental changes -that is why I have not posted it.
The mother took a few years to bloom & following the bloodline, looks like we have to wait- our Paul
is under the same predicament. But the koi looks promising. The head sumi has gone with the mud pond but I
see lot of shita sumi around the head area-once the sumi emerges, this koi will be one to watch-If thoughts have wings we can fly on it.

Hi MohanSmile,

Congrats again on your batch of Mohantaro tosais. Having seen the photos, 70% of them seem to have the traits of potential Jumbos ie; big long heads, strong shoulders and thick tail tube. The shiroji and beni is astoundingly good on some also.Laugh

Thanks and do keep us updated on the showa again once theres any further development.SlyLaugh

Hi Kemeer,

Thanks for your comments.
I am I surprised with the outcome _I expected results But not these pleasing.
I strongly feel some of the tosais will hit jumbo status but you need good care.
I feel I am too lucky with the pairing-sometimes even a dozen pairing will not click.

Will try and post a pix of the showa after the grow out event
