WinkHi Khoo, million thanks for the posts.Joshua & Mark I have the water parameters

under control.Ammonia,Nitrite 0 ppm.Recently I bought a float thermometer that can

measure the salt and the water temperature.Normal recommendation, per litre water

require 3gm (0.3%).I tested a 20 litres pail, add 60gm salt but the float meter only

read below 0.1%.Wondering if the float is reliable??Any comment regarding my

mini pond and the fitering drum?? OH,yes ater Ph maintained btw.7.4 - 7.8

Cheers Cool

Hi Kenny

You have a very nice pond. How did you manage to grow those creeping plants on the side of the pond?

I can pick out the Kohaku (red on white body), Showa (red and white on black body) and Hi Utsuri (red on black body) but I am not sure about the others. Great looking koi you have!

Cheers!

Re: [Joshua Lee] Can help to identify this koi? [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi dttk & Joshua

Thank you for the compliment. Those creeping plants are plastic stuff.Even the first row surrounding the tank are plastic.Except the behind row, tall plants are real.By the way FG tank size is 4ftx4ftx1ft deep. These kois are actually pond grade,ie.Singapore breed from Japanese koi parentage.Having gone through about eight months experiences,do you think I am ready to go for the "show grade" species? Can't forget the first encounter where I spent S$400 and 5 kois perished within a week. What about the float thermometer that I query in my previous post?It is reliable to test the salinity of the water?

hi Kenny and friends
Your pond looks lovely. Just want to share something that is the danger of your kois jumping out as the water level is rather high. You can add nettings in such a way that it surrounds the edge of the tank. It is something like a fence.

I don't want to see you lose your precious kois when they jumped out. I have lost a few kois that way. Now my tank is covered with netting but done in a way that it will not obstruct the view.

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Nice to hear from you.Too engross enjoying the view while resting on the sofa next to the pond.Never cross my mind that the water lever post a danger of the kois jumping out.Wondering how the nesting to be done. How about e-mail a sketch or photo of your pond (a snap shot on the fencing portion)? Thanks.

Re: [Luo LH Kenny] Can help to identify this koi? [In reply to] Can't Post

hi Kenny

I do not have a digital camera right now. Let me try to describe in words instead.

I have tried different kinds of netting after a few of my kois jumped out. The different nettings are: hard plastic type, heavy nylon type and lastly, the light weighted green type. I finally settled for the latter. The netting holes are large enough so that they do not obstruct the view and at the same time the netting is very light.

In my indoor pond's case, I have a metal halide lamp about 2 feet above the middle of the pond. So I used a magic wire to hang the middle of the netting to the lamp and the rest of the netting hugs the edge of the pond. To reinforce the safety of the netting, several holes are drilled at the side of the pond. The netting is then secured with the magic wire to these holes. In short, to use a local imagery, the overall look will be like a tent over the pond. Well for me, I can live with this as I can see the kois and at the same my mind can feel at ease. Till date no kois were lost. There were a few occasions when I noticed lots of water on the floor which I surmised that the kois tried to jump that night but the netting saved it. :)

Hope my description helps and not make the situation any confusing.

regards

Dennis

Dennis,
Thank you.I can pictured it .But,my wife is otherwise, cos.the sight of the pond garden beauty is obstructed.Well,I intend to build frames around the perimeter, slightly curve inward about 1 ft high.Need to visualize the angle that the koi is to jump.I will settle for the same nesting that you used.Well, has to crack my head.shall keep you posted once it is up.

Have A Nice Day
