Chagoi...so many breeds? Can't Post

Most of us will have no problem identifying the brown and the green chagoi but is there another breed? Let's wait for Webmaster to post the picture.

Thanks Mr Khoo for putting up the picture.

The fish in the centre - the tip of all its fins is white. Do you think its a black chagoi? ....BLACK!!!!

Hi! Mark,

The center koi definitely is a Karasugoi.

For chaigoi, understand when young, tends to be green especially for Doitsu type.

Different types I'd come across = Dark brown, Light brown, Reddish brown, metallic type - Kin chaigoi, Gin chaigoi, Nezu chaigoi. Greyish type is called Soragoi.
Grey + brown = Ochiba-Shigure.

I'd presently a Gin Chaigoi from Summer Farm, at 50cm approx. - one of my favourite.

Others I'm having now - Dark brown Chaigoi, Soragoi, two Ochiba-Shigure, Soragoi (pearl scale), Chaigoi (pearl scale).

Looking hard for a good mirror Doitsu Chaigoi of perfect scaling.

Cheers. Smile

Rdgs,
Eric

Thanks again Eric,

Originally, these koi were 8 inches swimming happily in my UK pond. That was about 4 years ago. The first two were brown chagoi and the last a green. 2 Christmas ago at the SKC forum(now no more), we were on the subject of hand carrying koi in the plane. So I decided to bring them to Singapore just to find out the "difficulties" with custom officers. After successfully arriving in Singapore for a mere 7 weeks, the center pictured koi(brown chagoi) turned black and has remains in this color. Very beautiful and especially for the smoothness of the body like doitsu. Their sizes today are 24", 26" and 22". Eats like pigs.

Karasu are solid black. Black with white tips on pectoral fins are Haijiro.

Hai,

I bought one green that day but it didn't seem so friendly like most people say. It just swim at the bottom and not to me.

Is that the way the chagoi would seem to be on the first few weeks? I also wish to buy another chagor that is brown or with two color.
