Maruyama Kohaku & Showa, any comments? Can't Post

I recently won this kohaku in an auction at SPKC last weekend. Been wanting to own a kohaku of the Kagura/Murata parentage. The kohaku is turning 12 months old next week, guaranteed female & is 40cm long.

As for the Showa, I acquired it through SPKC as well a few months back. Haven't seen the fish in the flesh yet. Currently in the Maruyama Koi Farm mudponds. Info about the showa; its 12 months old, guaranteed female, according to the cert its 36cm (have no idea when she was measured) & Dainichi/Maruyama parentage Any thoughts on these 2 pieces?

Uncle David,

Thanks for your kind & flattering remarks. I don't dare bringing the showa back until I build a house worthy for a fish of this stature. Maybe just leave it in Japan for another year or two until I manage to do so.

It would be great if you could use your vast experience to discuss the merits/demerits of this fish. Thanks! Smile

Still dreaming of finding a Sanke like David's Sanke aka D Sanke of Sakai Fish Farm. The pictures of her never fail to make me drool as I rate Sankes as my favourite in the elite Go-Sanke trio.

Hi Rosequeen ,

Of the 3 Showas , Rayson's muto showa has the nicest face pattern now , while your last showa with the masked eye patch , will turn out supered if the hidden sumi on the left face starts to surface , which is quite likely . Both your Showa has supered bodies , much better in bodyline than snowy's showa Your initial showa has a common pattern though but with 100 grams of wheatgerm for your showa , rayson might need 200 grams and still not catch up on body size with yours ...WinkWink

These are merely my comments based on the current pictures you posted Rosequeen ..SlySlySly No Prejudice .

Cheers
David

p.s - you guys certainly keeping lots of " secret weapons " ... would love to see how these showas turn out to be after this year's harvest ...

These are also 2 Showas I bought last year and still in the Momotaro mud-pond and hopefully I can get to see them during this end year harvest . The face Sumi of one of the Showas is very very faint and hardly visible . If it appears then it would looks fine , if it doesn't , looks like I will be stuck with a Hybrid Sanke ...SlySly

Hello David Bro,

Just want to add one point .
Rayson [ Muto Showa ] was only a tosai , while the other 2 Dainichi are nisais .
So comparing the body of a tosai against those of nisais is like comparing apples and oranges .SmileSmileSmile
All are good tategoi and in time the tosai will mature and bulk up and have comparable body conformity .SlySlySly

Your Momotaro Showa both are good too .......................cheersWinkWinkWink

Showa 1 Showa 2
Bro Jacky !!Smile

These 2 comparison already made ..SlySly , honestly bro , if Sumi on showa 2 surface , then showa 2 would be a more prefered Showa . Both have strong pattern and bodies , but showa 2 is more even in terms of beni / sumi and shiroji . My bet is Showa 2 will still turn out better .SlySlySly
For Young Koi Show both out , but your 55 cm Showa with the strong beni and sumi will kick out this 2 , but for future show in a bigger category , I feel these 2 Showas will kick your Showa out ...SlySly

Just my opinion ... no prejudice Bro Jacky .SlySly

Uncle David,

The 2nd Momo showa in the picture looks exactly like the showa I almost purchased from Oomo Koi Farm (I thought it was the same fish, carbon copies).

Notice the words almost purchased. The 1.2 miliion Yen price tag for a jumbo tosai (42cm before it entered the mudponds) was a bit too prohibitive for my budget Blush

Ended up getting the Maruyama showa I posted in this thread. Well no regrets & proud of it.

Hello Bro David WinkWink

Personally i prefer showa 2, but i was lucky enough to seek a japan breeder [ Sakai Kentaro-San & Odakan Yoshida-San ] comments.SmileSmile
Both agreed that Dainichi showa 1 would be the better one in 2years time and would be ready to win top prizes in the All Japan show then.SlySlySly

When i asked the breeder & dealer why showa 1 is better than showa 2, they said to me jacky , you are good in selecting kohaku & sanke .......................only novice will select showa 2 when comparing with showa 1.PiratePirate

I agreed , i still did not help all my customers to won good prizes for showa at All Japan Showa.BlushBlush
So both Dainichi Showa 1 & 2 i bought to learn , Showa 1 had sold, Showa 2 still my..............any guys interested on it for showa 2 ??? WinkWinkWink
