PASTE FOOD FOR KOIS

Hi All , Paste Food , though had been tried by many throughout the whole region here and japan , have come in many forms with various ingredients and staple food used as based , In Taiwan, we used fermented sweet potatoes as staple food for Kois . I would like to open up my recipe on the Paste Food I made for my Kois , from the basis recipe provided by Sakai Fish Farm with just a little improvement and proportion changes . Ingredients ======== FD Wheatgerm - 10 kilos Osyters - 12 kilos Honey - 4 kilos Silkworm - 400 grams or Olive Oil - 300 grams - as replacement of silkworm ( Cheaper and easily available than Silkworm Pupae ) Fruit Sugar - 100 grams ( Glucose - for energy ) Expected Yield - abt. 27 kilos of Paste Food . +++++++++++++++++++++++ Preparation Stage ============ 1 ) FD Wheatgerm + Silkworm Pupae to be grinded into fine powder . Any food grinder can do the job . 2 ) Boil the fresh Oysters till they are cooked . No not over-cook the Oysters as they could dry up and shrink . Just boil to cook . Upon cooked , blend the Oysters into Juice with the fruit juice blender . 3 ) Pour the Oyster Juice into a pail , when the Oyster Juice cool off add in the Honey and Fruit Sugar into the pail of Oyster Juice and comingle them . Make sure the Honey melts totally in the Oyster Juice. Caution : Do not pour in the Honey when the Oysters Juice is still hot , as the heat would kill all the elements needed in the Honey . +++++++++++++ Production Stage =========== Now you have a pail of Oysters Juice ( with Honey and Fruit Sugar ) + a pail of Wheatgerm Powder ( with Silkworm ) . You have to find a Dough making machine , or mix the 2 main ingredients into dough manually . Believe most of our wives or mother-in-law understand or can make dough better than us . Let them handle this part . When the Dough is complete , you have to turn this big dough into smaller dough of 500 grams each , stringwrap ( food-wrap) the smaller dough and store these doughs in the freezer . As there's no preservative used for this Paste Food , it has to be stored in a freezer ( I bought an ice-creamer freezer to store this . ) ++++++++++++ Feeding Stage ========= If you have intention to feed the 500 grams for the day , take it out of the freezer at least an hour prior that , as you have to let the dough thaw before serving . When the dough soften enough , it's SHOW TIME !!! Do not throw the 500 grams into the pond in one go , unless your Kois have got mouth bigger than a shark .!! Peel it into smaller bits , slightly bigger than the size of our dry pallets . Use your fingers to compress or round it . You probably have to pre-prepare this part before going near your pond . The minute you realised they like the food , you probably would be fast enough to make the small bits for them . Bear in mind that Kois might looks big with big mouth , but in fact their gullets are small and they can only swallow foods in small bits the size of our dry pallets . Happy Feeding .... Honestly , I do not know how many of you guys would try this after all the fuss it takes to produce this .... Cheers and happy dough making . David
