R Kohaku Tosai Can't Post

Hello koi kichis,

I could not resist the temptation after seeing Deen’s auction R. Kohaku tosai. So I was lucky to pick the last one from the batch .
For those of you who are not with us, R Kohaku stands for Richard Tan the president of Singapore Koi Club.

The mother - R Kohaku

yes he did water, i remember looking at those breeder's certificate at patrick's & having her bowled. good one mr mohan, i was eyeing on her myself before getting the ones i did. now it seems yours seem to look prettier. wah, thats the first time i saw the picture of R Kohaku. Ive only see it from the sakai fish farm's leaflet.

plenty of auction fishes with certificates in patrick's ponds. some of the hidden jewels (very very good quality but without certs). not to mention Sentul Park Koi Center (SPKC), slightly on the high price side but awesome collection & well run facility. Got my maruyama kohaku there at SPKC Smile

Still havent gotten the tickets to Spore. Sigh.

 Hi Needucho,
Hope it is a daughter & not a son. Even if it is a male I will try and keep it .As it is a good blood line it can be entered for shows until about 60cm. Later I will use it for breeding.

Hi Deen,
You can have comfort in thefact that yours is2 cm bigger. We will compare growth as it develops.

If the pix itself can thrill you ,a personal view will thrill you even further-it is an impeccable truth. The fingers

you see is that of Kintaro san. I am sure that the my pals you accompanied me on this unforgettable trip will vouch for it.

Hi Water,
Many MORE not to worry.

Very nice and your irresistible temptation is easy to understand. Nice big hi plates to grow in to and wonderfully placed for the future. Even in the small cert photo the body looks to have good growth potential and I'll definitely be looking forward to seeing some fresh pictures upon arrival at your pond.

Re: [larz1] R Kohaku Tosai [In reply to] Can't Post

yes the big hi plates & clear dorsal fin (deen is turning green). thick caudal penduncle. my question, how did mr ng yit kok maintains his fishes? his kohaku looks amazing. brlliant red, brilliant white...wow. i want my fishes to look like that too.

the other day mr patrick made me another offer than i cant refuse. a sakai kumonryu. some comments? this is my first time getting a kumonryu & from what i understand is you need to look at the body structure & skin quality. dont look at the patterns as it might and will change. at first i didnt think the fish was anything special. well that is until he showed me other kumonryus from the same spawning. the others were definitely smaller & thinner. others were around 15-20cms (my approximation). had poor patrick net all the other kumonryus to compare Blush

Hi Deen,
The value of Komonryu depends on how artistic the pattern is.The sumi pattern flows over the entire body-a common pattern.
The sumi is not 'dynamic' & lacquer like. Further the shiroji is not snow white-once taken out from dealer' s pond & given the tender care it might show this qualities-good luck
HI Larzl.
Thanks for your comments-i will post further pixs for comparision as it develops,

hey guys,

here's the latest pictures of my R Kohaku. got her (hopefully) bowled last weekend. It measures 20cms now, it was 18cms when I acquired it. That was a like 2-3 months back I cannot remember. Basically it was in the same batch as Mr Mohan's, same spawning.

Hi Deen,
I notice that your tosai is developing very well- snow white shiroji and uniform hi plate.
Did you manage to find out the sex?Is the tosai still in Patrick's place?

Well these are going to be a LOT of fun to follow. Wonderful skin in the new pictures of the KohakuCool It has a truly excellent luster to it, and the quality of the color appears very high.
I'd like to comment on the Kumonryu, but I have none of my own and neither do any of my local koi kichi friendsUnimpressed. I do like the looks of it, and from all I know (2nd hand knowledge) Mohan's comments are spot on. It will be an entertaining experience for you to see a completely different pattern every yearSmile. What I'm curious about is how much and how often the pattern will change in your year around warm waters. Typically they change radically with the seasons, but you don't really have any. Should be educational to compare it with similar fish from other climates.

It only grew 2cm in 2 months?

Correction, according to my written records, its actually 21cm not 20cm. And yes Mr Mohan it's still squatting at Patrick's & waiting for a suitable home Tongue. Unfortunately I did not manage to sex the fish yet. Patrick says its still too small to do so.

Thank you Mr Mohan & larz1 for the comments regarding the kohaku. Kind words indeed Smile.

About the Kumonryu, this is one bizarre fish. When I first saw it, it looks exactly like it did in the pic. Next 2 weeks when I visit it again, it was almost completely white. Then next visit, it was all black apart from its head & other fins (almost couldn't see it in the pond). The only way we could differentiate this fish was by its size. Anyway, this is the latest pictures of the kumonryu. Taken on the same day with the R Kohaku. Measuring 27cm now by the way.
