Sakai Sanke development Can't Post

Hi
I'm new to this forum but I really like the feedback you guys give on koi posted! I live in South Africa so we have similar conditions.

I bought this Sanke at Sakai FF last year. She was from the parent Akizakura (hope I spelled it right!) and I bought her as nissai (18months) at 58cm for 200 000 yen.
She won best Sanke at this years local show in size 8. She benched at 68cm which really suprized me!
What do you think. I know the pattern is not the most intresting but I guess for a good pattern she would have been 2mil! Her hi is getting better all the time.

Hi Ernst-SA,
Welcome to the forum! Wink It is good to hear from SA participating. Which country are you from??

The sanke you owned is pretty good. Shiroji and kiwa is sharp. Good body conformation. Sumi is not out profound yet and will show up later (patient, patient and patient). Wonder how you maintain its skin quality in such a hot climate?

I am very sure you are enjoying every inch of it. I bet you molest it quiet a bit since she is so friendly.......but don't over-do it! Tongue

Welcome Ernst,

I feel you got very good value for this sanke at 200,000 yen, although I know that transportation costs add significantly to your end cost in your part of the world.

Excellent body conformation (I'm assuming the little kink on the right side of the body is due to the koi moving during the photo-taking) with thick tail tube, indicating good size potential. Skin quality, shiroji and hi quality are good, as is that of the emerging sumi. A good example of the old style sanke. Personally I prefer the sumi on sanke to be in the form of slightly bigger patches, but that's just personal taste.

Cheers,
Paul

Ernst, really not bad having this 200.000 yen koi. The most important is that you love the koi whether it win the show or not, but she win your heart to keep her Sly. As you mention she win on class 8, then you should be from US or EU?

Welcome abroad pal.

Cheers,
Handy

Re: [Ernst-SA] Sakai Sanke development [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ernst,

Thank you for sharing with us your beautiful two-step type pattern Sanke.

This Sanke has a similar body conformation as the parent Akizakura koi.
Although this Sanke has a simple two-step type pattern, the large Hi plate on
the shoulder together with the Odome Hi is ideally position and balance.
This is a good example of a Koi that requires a substantial and thick body to
achieve a distinguished presence. At the present moment, it still lacks in volumeUnsureUnsure.

The impression of the pattern changes tremendously when the body gains in volume
and girth. This is usually noticeable in the area from the shoulder to the dorsal fin
which changes the most. The large Hi plate on the first half of the body will appear
more dynamic and beautiful when that happens.

As for the Sumi, I think the current Sumi shown are too small as when compared to
the large Hi pattern. The overall Hi pattern is powerful on this Sanke, but the Sumi appears powerless. If the current Sumi near the gill plate and dorsal fin were to
expand larger, this additional weight of the Sumi in proportion to the large Hi pattern
will cause this Sanke to look much more powerful in its presence, in my humble opinion.

Best Regards,
Thiam Hwa

Welcome to the Malaysian Forum Ernst.
I assume you are the same Earnst I know from the KB Forum (I'm PapaBear over there).
Every aspect of your Sanke is developing exactly as one would dream. The body is filling out wonderfully, the Beni and Sumi are both maturing like a hand in a glove, and the shiroji is excellent. In a smaller size it wouldn't do well in a show setting due to the emphasis on the idealized pattern in those classes, but in larger sizes I can certainly see her birnging home some nice prizes. Whatever you are doing, don't stopSly

Thank you all for your kind comments. She is still a very youngh koi at 2.5 years old but allready so big. I'm hoping she will be a true jumbo and that she will carry her 'big fish' pattern well. The sumi is developing slowly along with her benni so i'm holding thumbs that when she get's to 80cm everything will balance out.
I'm based in Cape Town South Africa for those who wondered.
i'm going back to Sakai this year to pick up a kohaku and to purchase another sanke from a different bloodline this time!

For fun I included my Marudo kohaku. She is 77cm and won GC at our show last month beating my friends 84cm sanke who won the previous year. We are still friends! Are the hobby great?

Hi Ernst,

I thought your Marudo kohaku was 83cm when you got her in Feb this year? At least that was what you mentioned in your Bito thread. The kohaku has superb body conformation and great shiroji, skin and lustre, and is growing well into a big fish pattern. It is not common that a 77cm gosanke can beat out the challenge of another high quality gosanke 7cm longer than itself, unless the difference in quality was that marked. I think that should tell you somethingSly

Cheers,
Paul

A bit of a mis-communication between myself and the dealer. I was told 84 but it turned out 74cm when I got it. She grew 3cm in the 6 months with me so when she was benched at the show she was 77cm according to the team. She is such an incredible fish though that I really did not mnd the mistake and I'm sure she will hot 80cm in the next couple of years.Sly
