Sanke from Mikita (You Tian) Can't Post

Hi Folks,

attached is a tosai sanke from Mikita (You Tian), 40cm.

I'm not familiar with this breeder, I would like to know more about this breeder, like what breed and bloodline is he good at.

Parent fish :

Mother : Momotaro
Father : Muto http://www.koiexport.com/jp/muto/muto.htm#(I also not familiar with this breeder).

sorry, if the english name of the breeder is not right.

Koinutx,Very nice koi. 40 cm is big for a tosai. Has all the characteristics of a potentially big fish. If the photo is showing close to its actual color, the first thing that strikes me is the shiroji. This is very important and makes the koi stand out immediately. The Sumi looks good. Hi cant really tell. I like the interesting pattern The body look like my Big Rose Sanke at tosai. If I am not mistaken, MUTO is an ex-sakai staff who turned breeder. His kois are not cheap. Has a Spore dealer brought in the koi?..If affordable, I wud buy it.Laugh

Hi HWong, this fish is in the S'pore dealer pond, still have plenty from the same batch of similar or higher quality....you guys are too excited about the Kondo kohakus in the opposite pond during the Koi Show visit. Wink

The price is definitely affordable to you....Cool

The shiroji is good, which is the 1st things that attracted me, followed by the body shape, know the motheris from momotaro, then the pattern.
sumi is not good at that time, as the fish just arrived 1 week. The hi is also not bright, but it is thick.

That's how I make my decision to get this koi.....all this within 15min. I didn't even net it out!Crazy

Btw, it's neighbour to Mohan Inazuma Kondo kohaku now.Cool

btw, he was not ready to sell this batch at that time, as the condition was not 'perfect' yet in term of colour, shine, etc....The fish just happened to catch my attention, when I was about to leave the farm....Laugh maybe this is pure fate.Cool

Re: [koinutx] Sanke from Mikita (You Tian) [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi koinutx,

I am with Hwong regarding the koi having all the traits of a future big koi. The only bit of reservation which
I have is that the Beni pattern placement is not necessarily excellent. I am trying to imagine whether her
Beni pattern in the middle section will match and balance out with her much larger & longer body in future.

Anyway, I think the koi's Beni pattern is not so critical because of the high quality of the Shiroji, Sumi and Beni
which will bring out the beauty in the koi. The Sumi is still in the process of emerging and there would be a
possibility that the Sumi underneath the Shiroji on the shoulder and gill could still appear. It was said that Sanke
with Sumi on the gills will most likely have superior Sumi quality. I think I have spotted a small patch of Sumi on
the gill of this koi and so please observe and keep us posted with its Sumi development.

Please try to keep the base Shiroji background as white as it can be so that the other Beni and Sumi will stand
out by better contrasts of their colours. I think the future of this koi will depends on your husbandry skill in raising
the koi.

Best Regards,
Thiam Hwa

Thiam Hwa,

Thanks for your comment.

The fish is current being house in the dealer's pond. He would have the necessary skill to groom and upkeep this fish.

The beni is also my concern at the point of purchase, but was convinced that it looks small as it was skinny.

Visited the fish today (after 1 month), and the fish has fatten, and the beni patch has in fact surfaced up as a more proportional to the last patch of hi. On the other hand, the sumi has surface up a lot more. it is no longer the 5 spot of small flower sumi, but a lot more. I hope it will consolidate just like many momo snake when they grow larger.

Hi koinutx,

You may have to consider installing a chiller to your 8 tons pond at some point in this hobby to
maintain the quality of the skin luster and colours. I am sure this koi is probably being kept in the
dealer's chilled pond now and at some point you will have to bring her back for raising in your own pond.
Jacky has quoted me quite a reasonable price on the chiller installation before for my small pond.
As for the running costs, the chiller will automatically switch on and off according to the set control
temperature to save costs.

BTW, has your water temperature gone down now from the past few very hot days? Mine is at 27 degree C.

Thiam Hwa

Thiam Hwa,

yes, the fish is in the dealer chilled pond. I think if the development of the fish is good, I'll just continue to place at the dealer place for the chilled water and larger size pond.

I've considered about the chiller option for my pond, and is still thinking hard about the electrical bill. I used to have a 6ft marine tank, and a chiller running cost is about $100 per mth, so I'm concern about running it for pond.
Pirate

My pond temperature is now around 29-32 depending on weather. Last 2 days of cooler night has seen it dropping to 27-28.

Re: [koinutx] Sanke from Mikita (You Tian) [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Poh Beng,

Thanks for up-dating us with your beautiful Sanke again. A 22cm growth in a year is quite
amazing and more so when the quality of the Hi, Shiroji and Sumi are still showing very high
quality from the picture posted. When this koi reaches the 80BU size and gained more
volume, it will looked even more outstanding.

When comparing the photos, the Hi pattern did not change much at all. It is only the Sumi
which has quite enormous changes. I think there are 2 important points shown on the
Sumi development.

Firstly, it is the 3 large Sumi patches on either side of the dorsal fin which is an important
feature becos' it has helped to make this Sanke appeared more balance with the marvelously
arrangement of the 3nos. Hi and 3nos. Sumi in the middle section. This has given the Sanke
an impression of stability and strength in the overall pattern.

Secondly, your wishes for more Sumi to appear on the shoulder has materialize WinkWink. I think
the appearance of the large patch of Sumi on the right side of the shoulder is also an imp.
feature. In my opinion, it will be even better if those small patches of Shita Zumi were to
emerge and form into a large Sumi becos' the size of a large Sumi here will balance the Hi
pattern on the first half.

On another note, I hope the scattered Sumi located on the second half of the body will
consolidate and clear up into a good composition. Hopefully, a patch of the Sumi will end
up at the left side end of the Hi pattern becos' this will enhance the Shiroji at the tail section.
In addition, the Sumi located at the left side of the tail section will also balances with the
Sumi located on the right side of the shoulder. If this materialize, it will elevate the beauty of
this Sanke further.

Ultimately, beside the important of the body conformation, this koi beauty lies in its Beni quality,
solid Sumi quality, Shiroji quality and skin quality. I think this is what Jacky Ong has been
constantly reminding us in his other threads on ' QUALITY' in koi.

Please keep us up-dated again because I think you will have great expectations for this koi.
Thank you for sharing.

Best Regards,
Thiam Hwa

Thank you for a wonderful thread and one which will help educate us on the development of sumis, hi and pattern. Looking back at the tosai, the emergence of the sumis on the left sides (the three spots)... were not obvious and certianly important to breaking the long body shape and will definitely enhance the koi more when it is 80+ cm and when the body opens up.

Congrats and kudos to Jacky for his husbandry and keeping skills.

By the way, is Mikita = Migita ??? Another ex-staff of Sakai.

ThiamHwa,

Thanks for your comments, I'll continue to update the progress......

Personally, very satisfy with the develop, on the quality and body structure. Pattern wise, only thing is the sumi on the face, which make it a "weird" or "unique" pattern.Crazy
Maybe it will become a hybrid of Sanke and Showa, since hybrid car is common nowsday....Tongue

I do have high expectation of this koi, esp when you see the overwhelming respond in JK auction site....maybe I should put this up for Auction too!Sly

Water, They should be the same guy, it's my mistake to type in wrongly.....at that point, I do not know the exact spelling/translation of the name.

Cheers!

IMHO. the 3 dot of Sumi on the face is 'unique' because it compliment with the 3 patches of Hi

Hi Thiamhwa & others,

It is a beautiful shanke-good proportionate body & good pattern. The outstanding feature is the snow white background just like my kondo kohaku-perhaps because of the chiller pond. The snow white background brings out the other two clours. BUT BUT the sumi on the head is the defect. If two shankes are competing for the same prize the one with the sumi on the head will obviously lose out. In the first Malaysian koi show my shanke lost to others because of the proverbial sumi on the head.I was told that Maso kato san pointed to my shanke but the other judges pointed to the sumi on the head & my shanke lost. IT was the favourite before the show. Later the sumi disappeared naturally & it went on to win 2 prizes at different shows. Again it was a cheap koi bought for only about less than RM 200.00.In line with cheap kois it did not grow more than 60cm.

IF you request i will post a pix of this koi.

My View on this Sanke, The 3dot Sumi on the face is the only fault Blush But see carefully, This Sanke have very good quality right Wink Sumi thick & deep , Beni very even also have good shine too. For the Shiroji i think it was fantastic right ? For a two years old + koi , the size can had 64cm, dont you think the body structure was good ?

So not only see the fault , See more on the Quality & pattern, when it grow to 80+cm i think you will forget the fault.Wink
Hope you guys agreed ? Any way i will post up Dainichi Sanke that won good prize at japan, also had sumi on the face, patten so so look like showa, But the quality was fantastic so it won.SlySly

Poh Beng Bro hope you happy with it.WinkWink May be next time become [ Showa-Sanke ] Cheers.

Re: [jackyolk] Sanke from Mikita (You Tian) [In reply to] Can't Post

For this Sanke, I'm fully satisfy with the quality.
i would say that in my few years of hoping around the farms, it is difficult to find such quality for a Nisai in Singapore.
Prehaps those better quality fish are usually kept in Japan.........
And if I compare the $$ I paid, to those good quaality Nisai in S'pore which can be as high as 5 digits, this koi is nothing for comparison in term of $$.

Sumi of face can be a defects.....but the overall quality (IMHO), is too good for the defect to be put into consideration.

I still remember how this fish attracted me at the point of purchase when it was tosai.
Within split second, I confirmed the purchase with jacky, even without bowling out the fish for close examination. it is just too outstanding in term of quality and body structure at that point.

Thanks to Jacky for making that recommendation and giving me a chance to own such a fish at "low" cost.
