Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims Can't Post

Hi all,

To support the donation drive in http://www.koi.com.my/cgi-bin/koiforum/gforum.cgi?post=106501;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread, Max will organize a Showa GO Event with 50 Saiki Showa Tosai. 40% of the collection will be donated to the Singapore Red Cross to help the victims due to the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone. The fish selected will stay in Max's concrete pond for 3 months. Each fish will be sold at $680 which mean if all are sold, $13600 will be donated.

I had personally seen those showa this afternoon. It should be around 25cm or bigger. Some are quite good quality. Out of the pond of 80 showa, I will try to get the best 50 for this exercise. let target to do the selection on the 15th June and I will get it confirm as soon as possible.

Please help to pass this information around so that we can successfully clear the 50 piece and gather enough funds for the charity.

Also, I need to have a show of hand to see the support level. If you are interested in doing your part, please go to the thread in Singapore location and reply.

Regards
Do your parts for the Charity..

Re: [koifriends] Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all

I had confirmed with Max that the Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims will be held on

Sunday 22nd June 2008 at 2pm to 5pm

The location is

Max Koi Farm
251 Neo Tiew Cresent
Singapore 718835
Tel : 65-6862 6363

The 50 koi will be placed in a few tanks for easy viewing and selection. For the 1st 30min, it will be registration time. Those committed to purchase (including those that committed here) will get the priority to select. No lucky draw. Those registered early will have the highest priority and so on. That is to say Carpa Diew (provided he turn up or ask a proxy to help) will go first since he is the second to commit. Note that David Soon although the first to commit, he had mentioned that he will select from the remaining. So the list go like this..

1. Carpa Diem
2. Koinutx
3. Jason Tan (2)
4. Redwhitewine
5. lovesanke
6.
7.

The selection will start at 2.30pm sharp. With this system, anyone can register at anytime during the event although I hope many will come forward and register now. This will also allow more fish to be sold during the event so that we can raise more funds for the victims. 40% of the proceeds from the sale during this event will be donated to the Singapore Red Cross. Those koi that are not sold during this event will go back to Max.

For those that are interested but cannot make it on Sunday, you can reply to this thread to ask me to act for you. You can then sms me with your selection list and I will select for you according to your list. You can also call Max directly.

Please help to spread this new to all you koi friends.

The picture of the koi are available at http://www.koifriends.com/earthquake/Maxgo.html

Hi Welson,

While I was mentioning this event to some of my koi kakis over the weekend, a couple questions arises :

a. Who do the participants pay their check to, Singpaore Red Cross Society or Max koi ?

b. If paid to latter, any checks & balances put in place to ensure the donations made are channelled to the right organisation ?

Hi Kelvin, thanks for bring this up.

Since the donation is not 100%, the money will have to be paid to Max instead. As mentioned, 40% of the proceeds from the sale during the event will go to the charity. That mean, during the 3 hours from 2 to 5pm, all the sale will be registered with the counter setup. Sale after 5pm will not be included unless Max wants to donate himself.

So at the end of the event, from the registration, we will be able to know how many piece of koi had been sold. Based on the number, we can calculate the amount of money Max will have to issue to Singapore Red Cross. All the sale will also be mentioned in this forum. I will find a white board and put it at the counter to indicate how many koi have been taken. This will allow transparency.

I will get the cheque from Max and bring to Singapore Red Cross. I can scan the receipt and post them here for everyone to verify too.

If you have other better suggestion to make it more transparent, please reply onto this forum.

Hi Welson and All Kind Souls out there ,

We can simply trust Max with monies , I can even gaurantee his personality though I would not know who would gaurantee mine ,SmileSly but to ensure all kind souls out there that this funds would be channelled correctly , I would simply suggest for every successful koi for this Showa GO , all kind souls to issue 2 cheques for the successful bid . For each fish , Sin$ 272/- to be made payable to Singapore Red Cross and Sin$ 408 to Max Koi Farm . I guess this will not raise doubt to the monies not properly channel out .

As I know , donations made out to Singapore Red Cross , you enjoy twice the tax rebate for the amount donated . Hope this help .Wink

David

Hi all, below is what I got from the Singapore Red Cross website http://www.redcross.org.sg/chinaearthquake_src_donate.htm. The donation is not tax deductible. I agreed with David that the by issuing 2 cheques will help although it will be more work especially those from oversea. Anyway, for local kind souls, you can issue 2 cheques. As for oversea buyers, you can discuss with Max on the payment and I will ask Max to issue the cheque to Red Cross Society. Please take note that the cheque must made payable to Singapore Red Cross Society.

Cheque Donations
Cheque can be made payable to:
Singapore Red Cross Society

Please indicate behind the cheque:
1) Name, Organisation (if applicable), Mailing Address and Contact Numbers
2) For Red Cross China Earthquake Appeal

An official receipt (Donation is not tax deductible) will be issued.

Hi David & Welson,

I hope by raising the two questions did not make people feel that I am doubting the integrity of anybody who has sacrificed wholeheartedly contributed to the success of this donation drive. In fact, I was hoping that by clarifying these queries would re-assure all koi hobbyists who may be contemplating in participating in the GO event but were held back due to worries over the transparency of the process.

I will convey these information to all my koi kakis and hopfully more will participate in the GO event and make this donation drive a successful one.

Thanks.

Hi Kelvin, thanks for raising the questions. They are definitely valid and important questions. For an donation exercise, we need to be transparent and able to account for all the donated money.

For koi auction and the koi sale, there is no problem as no cash involved. All the payment will be made with cheque to Singapore Red Cross. But in the GO, 40% will go to the charity.

David's proposal of issuing 2 cheques can definitely help. But in order to allow oversea buyers who normally TT money over to Max as well as those who normally pay with credit card or Nets, we will still need to allow other method of payment as well. We can defintely trust Max, but to ensure transparency, we need to state out the procedure upfront.

I will prepare a spreadsheet so that we can use to record the sale during the event. So at the end of the event, we can use it to summary how much have been collected for the charity. At the end of the event, after I do all the calculation, it will be good to have another person counter-check the account. Can you act as that role? But this require you to be with me until maybe 6pm on Sunday.

Hi Welson,

I would really love to assist you but I'm afraid I could not help on this Sunday because of prior engagement. It took me 2 days to reply you cos till this afternoon, I am still trying to see if I can make alternative arrangements so that I could be at the event to assist you but in vain. In fact, I am not even certain if i can be at the event at all.

But one thing I am certain - this event would be in the good hands of yourself, David, Max and other good samaritans. I will try my very best to be there to support the event and will also encourage my koi kakis to do likewise.

Thanks for asking me to assist and am really sorry for not being able to help. Cheers !
