    Hi Koifun,

This koi probably started of as a Shiro Utsuri but has developed Hi. So now it is a showa. Shiros are bred from Showa lines and often has problems with the undesired hi.

    Hi, Hwong,

Thanks for ur comment. I tend to agree with your comment. So if it was shiro utsuri turn showa, does it appears nice to look at?

I bought it becoz I like this pattern at one look thinking it is going to to be tategoi. May be I was dreaming. Anybody has a similar koi or seen one with a jumbo size b4?

    Thanks.Sly

    Hi Koifun,

Just curious. You bought this Koi with the Hi already developed ? If it does not originally come with the Hi, this Koi is not from a reputable breeder, is it ?

    Hi, Mr. Tan

I bought this koi with Hi already developed. I am not sure which breeder it comes from. I bought it becoz I was looking for a showa but happen to see this half showa and it is nice looking as far as I am concerned.

    Hi Koifun,

Phew ! It's OK then, as long as you are not geing mislead. You are buying what you will enjoy, that's very important. The rest may just be comments. As the saying goes "Man man's meat is another's poison".

BTW, don't have to use "Mr.", OK ?

Also, I guess this Koi may still develop, judging the right pectoral fin. Should be interesting also to see what happens to the Hi as well. Hope you can give some update later...

    Cheers

    Koifun,

The key thing in buying koi is that it has to be appealing to you. That's the most important. If you like it, that's all it matters.

Since the koi is taken below water, it is really hard to see the body shape and coloration of the skin. Having said that, if I were to comment, this koi will probably not win in a show....but it still makes a very good pet.

    Cheers,
    Patrick

    Hi, Patrick

Your comment is a fair one. I think too this koi is not up to my expectation when I see others.Thanks.

    Hi Koifun,

That's the problem with this hobby, one can never be fully satisfied with his collection....there's always a better Koi...the so called "Dream" Koi. Anyway, I've my joy in watching my Koi develop. It is to me a very interesting part of Koi keeping. Hope it is for you too.

    Cheers

    Hi, SL

Agreed with u. Always has the urge to go to koi farm and once there end up in buying despite pondfull status. So-called "sau han" or "sou yan" after being persuaded or sweet talked by the dealer. But after buying home, usually worry about pond overcrowdedness. Luckily, I adopt the approach of not buying expensive kois but getting my so-called tategoi and hope for the best out of my skill in maintenance of water condition.

    Cheers.
